Next, journey to the top of Mount Pilatus via an unforgettable gondola and cable car ride and then immerse yourself in the Mediterranean flair of Lugano. Located in the canton of Ticino, Lugano is known as the Monte Carlo of Switzerland. From there, board the Centovalli Express, which connects Locarno on Lake Maggiore with Domodossola in Italy. Before your trip is over, visit Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland region and enjoy a spectacular day of sightseeing at the top of Jungfraujoch!

DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN LUCERNE
Welcome to the gateway to central Switzerland! When you arrive by train from Zurich, check into your hotel and take advantage of the rest of your day and evening by sightseeing at your own leisure. Visit the Chapel Bridge, marvel at classic Swiss architecture, mingle with the friendly locals, or relax in a sunny plaza or along the waterfront promenade. Prepare to indulge in some tranquillity and relaxation. There’s a reason this city of lights wins over so many travellers’ hearts. (Overnight in Lucerne) B

DAY 2 – MOUNT PILATUS
You’ll have breakfast then journey to the top of Mount Pilatus via an unforgettable gondola and cable car ride. Once at the top, you'll find the historic Pilatus Kulm Hotel and restaurant where you can dine or enjoy refreshments. There are countless walking trails to explore the area, but beware of the legendary dragon who has magical healing powers and lives in the mountain. After soaking up the wonderful 360-degree views, make your way down the mountain to Kriens before taking a short bus ride back to Lucerne. (Overnight in Lucerne) B

DAY 3 – LUCERNE TO LUGANO
Start the morning with breakfast, and then take a scenic train ride to Lugano, where you can spend the rest of the day strolling through the Italian speaking region on your own. After all, there’s no better way to get to know such a special city. The stunning beauty of the lakeshore and the awe-inspiring San Salvatore and Brè Mountains make for great photo backdrops. Relax at waterfront parks such as Parco Ciani, shop in Via Nassa, and dine at the finest restaurants throughout Lugano’s lively squares. DAY 4 – LUGANO
After breakfast, continue exploring the city at your leisure. Take time to visit The Hermann Hesse Museum, pass a lazy afternoon in one of its many gorgeous botanical gardens or beneath its palm trees, or simply grab some gelato and walk the lakeside promenade or Piazza della Riforma. If time permits, book a boat cruise on glacial Lake Lugano and take in the stone houses, church steeples, terraced gardens, stunning mountain scenery, and village roads that skirt the shoreline hugging the Swiss-Italian border. DAY 5 – CENTOVALLI EXPRESS TO INTERLAKEN
Following breakfast, board the Centovalli Express, which connects Locarno on Lake Maggiore with Domodossola in Italy. The Centovalli, meaning 100 valleys, is an excursion that offers many scenic views and incredible landscapes of the surrounding region, including Valle Vigezzo. This route includes 83 bridges and 34 tunnels. It’s one of the most gorgeous scenic routes in southern Switzerland—traversing past Alpine waterfalls, vineyards covered hillsides, forests, and deep ravines.
No seat reservations are needed, but passengers will need to pay approximately CHF 1.50pp for these trains at departure as it includes panoramic carriages from Locarno to Domodossola. When there aren’t panoramic carriages available, no additional payment is required. Change trains in Domodossola to Brig and on to Bern. (Overnight in Interlaken) B

DAY 6 – INTERLAKEN
After enjoying breakfast, the day is free for you to explore the charming town’s activities and attractions on your own. Choose to roam around Höhematte or the Schynige Platte Botanical Alpine Gardens, visit the St Beatus Caves, or take a scenic cruise on the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz on your own. Offering incredible outdoor opportunities, mouth-watering chocolate, and unparalleled cultural experiences, Interlaken is a wonderful destination.  (Overnight in Interlaken) B

DAY 7 – JUNGFRAU
After breakfast, you will climb to Europe's highest altitude railway station on Jungfrau Mountain, at a colossal 11,332 feet high. The journey takes you to Kleine Scheidegg, before reaching the station at Eigergletscher, which is well known for its mountain restaurant and Huskies. At Jungfraujoch, take in the breathtaking views of the Black Forest in Germany and the Vosges Mountains in France. After a spectacular day sightseeing, return to the hotel for the second night of your stay. (Overnight in Interlaken) B
DAY 8 – END OF TOUR
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and board an indirect train from Interlaken to Zurich to continue with your onward travels. If you wish to extend your vacation, please contact a Rail Expert for details. B
