TRIP ITINERARY

DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN LUCERNE
Take the train from Zurich to Lucerne and on arrival, check in for a two-night stay. After getting settled, begin exploring all this stunning Central Switzerland city has to offer. The medieval Chapel Bridge is a great place to start as it is considered to be one of the oldest, covered wooden bridges in Europe. Lucerne is also full of picturesque town squares where you can relax, indulge in some Swiss delicacies and soak in the Swiss culture. (Overnight in Lucerne)

DAY 2 - LUCERNE/MOUNT RIGI
Today take a 1hr cruise on Lake Lucerne to Vitznau, then the oldest mountain cog railway in Europe 1800m up to Rigi Kulm. The railway carriages haven't changed much in 100yrs, and once at the top you get to enjoy some spectacular 360-degree views of as far afield as France and Germany on a clear day. There’s a gift shop and restaurant for lunch at the top, and between May and October you may even have the chance to take a stroll with a St Bernard dog, synonymous with the area. On your decent take another scenic cog railway to the town of Art-Goldau then a train back to Lucerne, or if you're feeling adventurous hop off at Rigi Kaltbad and take the cable car to Weggis from where there is a 15-minute walk to the boat cruise back to Lucerne. DAY 3 - LUCERNE TO LUGANO
After breakfast enjoy a paddle cruiser ride across the gorgeous Lake Lucerne in route to Fluelen and relish in the amazing views of the snow-capped mountains along the way. Then you will board the scenic Gotthard Panorama Express for a lovely journey along the historic Gotthard railway line, where stunning scenery awaits. You’ll be treated to fascinating history and the legend of the Gotthard region along the way. There is also a photography coach on the train where you can take all the pictures you desire. On arrival in Lugano, check in for a two-night stay. (Overnight in Lugano) B
 

DAY 4 - LUGANO
Spend today getting to know Lugano. Located in Switzerland right on the Italian border, this city offers all the loveliness of Switzerland with a Mediterranean flair. Lugano Arte e Cultura, otherwise known as LAC, is the city’s cultural centre, and is full of local and cantonal art. If you are interested in architecture, visit Swissminiatur, an open-air museum that features over 120 1:125 scale models of the most famous buildings and monuments in Switzerland. The park also features 1,500 plants and over 10,000 flowers for your viewing pleasure! (Overnight in Lugano) B
 

DAY 5 - LUGANO TO MILAN
Today, you will board the train from Lugano to Milan and on arrival, check-in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day discovering fashionable, vibrant Milan, perhaps visiting the Piazza Duomo in the heart of the city, or the Santa Maria delle Grazie, a classically beautiful Renaissance church. (Overnight in Milan) B

DAY 6 – DEPART MILAN
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your onward travel. If you wish to extend your vacation with additional stops or extra days in a different city, one of our Rail Specialists would be happy to help you with all the details. B

Romantik Wilden Mann Luzern

The Romantik Hotel Wilden Mann is a traditional hotel with 51 bedrooms and suites set over seven historic Lucerne townhouses. The hotel has two restaurants, fine dining in the Wilden Mann Stube, and the Burgerstube, serving regional Swiss cuisine. The hotel is located in the centre of Lucerne's old town, 200 metres from the famous Chapel Bridge and a few minutes walk to the train station.
