Day 27: Overnight onboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express to Sarajevo & Mostar

The train pulls into the Bosnian capital early in the morning, and the history of this ancient city will be brought to life for you by your local guide. They will lead you on a poignant tour exploring the mosques and minarets of the city's ancient center, as well as, the physical and mental scars of modern warfare and Sarajevo's more recent history. Enjoy lunch onboard the train as it follows a scenic line to the small city of Mostar, once one of the most important cities in the Ottoman Empire and renowned for its stone arch bridge linking the Christian and Muslim areas. The bridge was destroyed in the war but rebuilt in 2004 and is now a symbol of unity. From here, it's a luxury coach ride to Dubrovnik for an overnight stay. Arrive this morning at the former capital of Yugoslavia, Belgrade which is located at the meeting point between the Danube and Sava rivers. Day 30: Overnight onboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express to Skopje

Skopje is a Macedonian city full of Ottoman influences, and rarely visited. There’s time to wander through the Old Bazaar and marvel at the 15th-century Stone Bridge before returning to the train for lunch. The train crosses into Greece in time for an early evening tour of vibrant Thessaloniki, and this evening you’ll enjoy a wonderful al-fresco fresh seafood dinner. Day 31: Overnight onboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express to Sofia & Plovdiv

The golden-domed Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia is one of the world's largest Eastern Orthodox churches and is truly a sight to behold. Your morning tour of Sofia takes this in, together with sections of the Roman wall still standing, as well as the ancient church of St George and the Turkish Bashi Mosque. Lunch is enjoyed on the train before arriving in Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second city.  ‘The City of Seven Hills’ is one of the oldest cities in Europe and your afternoon is spent exploring the Roman Forum and Amphitheatre, Ottoman baths, and medieval walls. Day 32: Istanbul

This morning you will arrive in the great city of Istanbul. A city that defies your imagination in its cultural riches and beauty, Istanbul has been a focal point for humanity for millennia. It has been both the center of the Christian and Muslim worlds and spread over the busy Bosporus Straits spanning both Europe and Asia. Very few cities in the world can match it for its historical importance. You'll visit the breathtaking Hagia Sophia, (a 6th-century Church that was converted to a mosque after the Ottoman conquest), as well as, the Sultan Ahmet Mosque (the Blue Mosque) which is one of the most famous monuments in the Islamic world. Also included is a visit to the stunning Topkapi - the world's largest and oldest palace which was the primary home of the Ottoman Sultans from 1465 to 1853. Day 33: Istanbul

Today is to enjoy at your leisure. Relax in at your 5-star hotel editing your photos perhaps or head out and enjoy some more of Istanbul. Day 36: Istanbul to Cappadocia

It’s an early start today as you are met and taken to the airport for the short flight east, to the magical land of Cappadocia. Located in central Turkey, the region is renowned for its extraordinary landscape of fairy chimneys, and ancient cave dwellings. Visit Devrent Valley, Goreme National Park, the famous pottery village of Avanos where a local lunch is served, then on to the ancient ‘Monks Valley’ before settling into your traditional cave hotel for the night. Day 37: Cappadocia to Istanbul

This morning enjoy a stroll along the Red and Rose valley, then on to the troglodyte village of Cavusin and its Rock Castle. Following lunch, you’ll head underground, to the Underground City of Kaymakli, then back above ground to the fantastic viewpoint of Pigeon Valley. The timing of your included but weather-dependent balloon ride will be confirmed on the day, and you can review your amazing photos on the included flight back to Istanbul in the evening. A car will deliver you safely to the airport in Istanbul in time for the flight to Johannesburg, where you will be met and transferred to the Intercontinental Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport for a day of relaxation. Day 40: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park

Following breakfast, it’s a quick hop to the airport terminal for your short flight to Hoedspruit. Once landed, you will be whisked away to the majestic Jabulani Safais lodge, for three full days of all-inclusive luxury. Day 45: Overnight onboard Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Cape Town

Today transfer to the Rovos Rail station in Pretoria for check-in and a welcome reception. Then it's on to Meyerton Station to board the train and begin your three-night fully inclusive journey of a lifetime. Settle into your luxury Pullman Suite as the train departs, then enjoy lunch onboard as you travel through the broad grassland plains of the Highveld. Day 46: Overnight onboard Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Cape Town

Breakfast will be served in the dining cars in the morning, followed by lunch just after midday, before you arrive in Kimberly. Here enjoy a tour of the Diamond Mine Museum and Big Hole. The town itself is world-renowned thanks to the discovery of diamonds back in 1871, and the aforementioned Big Hole is an astonishingly huge crater from which over 22 million tons of earth has been removed by hand, in the search for diamonds. Day 47: Overnight onboard Rovos Rail from Pretoria to Cape Town

The train passes through Karoo whilst you enjoy your breakfast this morning. A vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. Following lunch, there is the chance for guests to disembark the train at Whitehill Siding and enjoy a 5km accompanied walk into Matjiesfontein. The walk is not compulsory, and one can simply disembark the train in the historic village if you prefer. Here you can explore the village itself, as well as the museum on the station platform. Once back onboard the train passes through the first of four tunnels which is 13.5km long. Around 7:30 pm dinner is served as the train climbs 750m down the escarpment towards Worcester. Day 48: Cape Town

Day 49: Cape Town

Today enjoy a half-day private city tour of one of the world's greatest cities. You will drive past iconic landmarks including the Castle of Good Hope and City Hall. Adderley Street will lead us to St. George's Cathedral, associated with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. We'll pass the Company Gardens and the Bo-Kaap, a historic neighborhood on Table Mountain's slopes. Next, we have the option to join a tour of diamond cutting and jewelry manufacturing. Day 50: Cape Town

Make sure your camera is fully charged today as you head off on a full-day private tour of the Cape Peninsula and Kirstenbosch. Your tour starts with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast, passing through Sea Point and Camps Bay, offering breathtaking views of the Twelve Apostles. Next, we'll visit the hidden gem of Hout Bay, a charming fishing village. Optional boat trips to Duiker Island are available to view the Cape Fur Seals. The morning arrives in Sawai Madhopur, the original private hunting grounds of the Maharajas. Gear up for a game drive safari at Ranthambore National Park, once home to royalty and now home to elusive tigers, spotted deer, and sly leopards roaming free. Bumpy rides through the bush in open jeeps promise wildlife views, unlike African safaris.
