Trip Overview

Take the train through the majestic scenery of the Swiss Alps to the historic cities of Venice and Rome on this six-night Italian vacation. Start with a night in the lakeside city of Geneva before heading through the Alps to see the Rialto Bridge and Venice's famous Grand Canal. From here, travel by train to Rome and admire the ancient Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and the Vatican City among other famous attractions.

DAY 1 - ARRIVE IN GENEVA
Your vacation begins in Geneva, where you will check in at your hotel for the night. Make the most of your time in Geneva - spend the evening enjoying a tasty meal at a local lakeside restaurant or take a relaxing boat trip out on the lake and admire the city's cosmopolitan feel and the stunning backdrop of the Alps and the Jura mountains. (Overnight in Geneva)

DAY 2 - GENEVA TO VENICE
After breakfast, depart Geneva in the morning and travel to Venice on one of the most scenic routes in Europe, the Simplon Pass. Relax while the train follows the shores of Lake Leman and across Swiss vineyards, with stunning views of the Alps in the background. Travel further south after crossing the border into Italy before arriving in Venice. On arrival, check in at your hotel and enjoy a three-night stay. Venice is a unique city made up of numerous islands on the Adriatic coast. Spend your first evening getting lost in the narrow maze of streets, canals and squares until you find the perfect trattoria for dinner. (Overnight in Venice) B

DAY 3 - VENICE
Continue your exploration of Venice by visiting some of the city's masterpieces, such as the Basilica of San Marco adorned with Byzantine architecture and glimmering angels dotted across the ceilings. Alternatively take a stroll along St. Mark's Basin up the waterfront promenade, with the bell towers of San Giorgio Maggiore on the left and San Marco on the right. (Overnight in Venice) B

DAY 4 - VENICE
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then head out for another day in beautiful Venice. Stop for a glass of Prosecco in the heart of the city, the Piazza San Marco on your return. After dinner, take a boat trip along the Canal Grande and marvel at the beautiful lights which illuminate it as you pass under the famous Rialto Bridge. (Overnight in Venice) B

DAY 5 - VENICE TO ROME
After breakfast, sit back and relax on your journey to Rome. Pass quaint Italian villages and rolling fields before arriving at Rome Termini. On arrival, make your way to your hotel and check in for a two-night stay. Italy's capital city since the country's unification in 1861, Rome was also once famously the capital of a huge empire which at one time stretched from southern Scotland to the Caspian Sea. There are plenty of remnants of this empire to see all over the center of the city. (Overnight in Rome) B

DAY 6 - ROME
Why not enjoy a day at the Vatican City and admire the gigantic St Peter's Basilica, exploring the labyrinthine corridors and galleries of the Vatican Museums. Don't miss a look at the Sistine Chapel's famous ceiling while you are here! In the evening, why not enjoy a drink (or gelato) in the Piazzi di Spagna at the foot of the Spanish Steps? DAY 7 - DEPART ROME
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your travels. If you wish to extend your vacation, perhaps with an additional day in a different city, one of our Rail Vacation Specialists will be happy to assist you with the details. B
