Ignite your passion for travel on this five-day, four-night rail journey, where you’ll experience some of the most incredible landscapes and untouched wilderness in the world. Your adventure begins with one night in the bustling metropolis of Zurich before taking a peaceful train to Chur. Enjoy the mountainous backdrop and then climb aboard the famous Bernina Express to Tirano, Italy. Along the way, be awed by magnificent panoramic views as the train travels through diverse, wild scenery. From there, your trip takes you to the gorgeous lakeside town of Lugano and then ends with an overnight stay in Zurich. If you’ve been wanting to visit far off places to experience once-in-a-lifetime moments, this rail journey is for you!

DAY 1 – ARRIVE IN ZURICH
Welcome to Zurich! When you arrive, check into your hotel for an overnight stay. The evening is yours to pass the hours wandering through the metropolis as you wish. Visit the district of Altstadt—or Old Town, dine at a world-class restaurant, shop, relax in a charming café, and stroll along cobblestone-paved streets and marvel at the Renaissance-era architecture. DAY 2 – ZURICH TO CHUR
Following breakfast, take a two-hour picturesque train ride from Zurich to Switzerland’s oldest city: Chur. Breathe in the fresh air of the Swiss Alps as you explore the Alpine town’s courtyards, cobblestone alleys, hidden gems and popular attractions, or simply gaze at the snow-capped mountains, relax and people watch. (Overnight in Chur) B

DAY 3 – THE BERNINA EXPRESS TO TIRANO
After breakfast, take the legendary Bernina Express from Chur to the historic town of Tirano, Italy. From St Moritz to Tirano, you will be traveling in first-class. The views from the train are absolutely stunning, and you’ll experience all the “Oohs” and “Aahs” you expected before boarding. When you arrive in Tirano, it’s time to enjoy some pizza and regional wine.

In the summer months (May 10 to October 28), you have the opportunity to take the red Bernina Express Bus from Tirano to Lugano in Switzerland. This scenic route traverses through the Valtellina— one of Italy's most dramatic wine regions—and past Lake Como. When the Bernina Express Bus is not running, take a train from Tirano to Milan then Milan to Lugano. (Overnight in Lugano) B

DAY 4 – LUGANO TO ZURICH
Enjoy breakfast then take a direct train from Lugano back to Zurich. There is no exact time you have to take the train, so feel free to do some more sightseeing in Lugano first. The stunning beauty of the lakeshore and the awe-inspiring San Salvatore and Brè Mountains make for great photo backdrops. Relax at waterfront parks such as Parco Ciani, shop in Via Nassa, or have lunch at a restaurant in one of Lugano’s lively squares. (Overnight in Zurich) B

DAY 5 – END OF TOUR

ABC Hotel Chur

The ABC Chur is a modern boutique hotel with 40 comfortable and contemporary bedrooms. There is a cosy lobby bar where you can enjoy a night-cap in the evening, as well as a spa-lounge with a fitness centre, sauna and steam bath. The hotel is close to the main railway station, in the centre of Chur.

Romantik Hotel Stern Chur

The Romantik Hotel Stern is a historic hotel with 64 comfortable and modern bedrooms. The hotel has a traditional Swiss restaurant called the Buendner Stube which offers a menu of seasonal dishes from locally sourced produce. The hotel is situated in the centre of Chur, close to the Old Town.

Hotel International Au Lac Hotel Lugano

Nestled in a prime location between the lakeside promenade and the lively restaurants, cafés and boutiques of Via Nassa, the International au Lac is a family-run property in a sensational location. The hotel was given the honorary distinction of “Historical hotel worthy of special mention” by UNESCO. The hotel’s rooms are individually decorated, all with a classic elegant style. Relax after sightseeing with a stroll through the garden or a dip in the outdoor pool. The hotel even boasts an exhibition about its 100 year history!

Swiss Night Am Kunsthaus Zurich

The Swiss Night am Kunsthaus is located within a quiet residential district and is close to the Kunthaus Museum and the Opera of Zurich. Lake Zurich is just a short walk away and all 46 bedroms are light, airy and spacious. The hotel also benefits from a fitness centre.

Du Theatre Zurich

The Hotel du Théâtre in Zurich is a historic hotel which was a theatre during the 1950s. The hotel has 50 individually designed, contemporary bedrooms as well as a cinema and audio book library in honour of the hotel's theatrical past. The Schweizerhof Hotel in Zurich is a traditional family-run hotel, with 115 comfortable and elegant bedrooms. Guests are provided with a butler service on arrival (Monday to Friday), a welcome cocktail at the bar and fresh fruit in their bedroom. The hotel has a French restaurant, a bustling café, and guests enjoy a champagne American style buffet breakfast. The hotel is opposite the main railway station, on the famous "Bahnhofstrasse".
