Trip Overview

Start your Southern Italian vacation by first spending three days in the eternal city, Rome. Then travel to the ancient city of Naples for a night before heading further south through the Italian countryside all the way down to Sicily. A highlight of the journey is the train rolling onto a ferry to take you across the straits of Messina to Sicily. The train then continues along the beautiful coastline to the famous resort town of Taormina.

DAY 1 – ARRIVE ROME
Welcome to Rome! Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay and begin discovering this iconic city. Why not start by visiting the museums and galleries at the beautiful Villa Borghese gardens, and don't miss the spectacular Trevi Fountain, brilliantly lit in the evening. (Overnight in Rome)

 DAY 2 - ROME
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then head for another day of sightseeing at leisure using your city sightseeing card. Admire the breath-taking collection of ancient art, sculptures and statues at the Capitoline museums or why not take a trip to the enchanting Vatican, the centre of the Catholic world and a completely independent state.  DAY 3 - ROME
Make the most of your final full day in Rome. No visit is complete without seeing the Colosseum and a stroll through the Roman Forum. Or maybe visit the zoo at the Villa Borghese gardens and treat yourself to some delicious Italian cuisine at a traditional trattoria or cool down with an ice-cold gelato. (Overnight in Rome) B

 DAY 4 - ROME TO NAPLES
After breakfast, take the high-speed Eurostar Italia train to the Southern Italian city of Naples. Upon arrival, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Naples is Italy's third largest city and its UNESCO World Heritage listed historic center is the largest in Europe, offering everything from classical ruins to medieval castles. The finest of the castles, the Castel Nuevo, is one of the city's major landmarks. You can also indulge in some retail therapy at the lively Galleria Umberto or visit one of Naples' great museums such as the National Archaeological Museum, offering one of the world's most extensive collections of Roman artefacts.  DAY 5 - NAPLES TO TAORMINA
Leave Naples and take the Intercity train to Sicily. The train travels south through the Italian countryside and once at the Straits of Messina, the train boards a boat to take you from mainland Italy to Sicily. The train then continues along the coast to the famous resort town of Taormina. On arrival, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay.  Surrounded by stunning natural beauty such as the impressive Mount Etna and sweeping bays alongside the Mediterranean Sea, Taormina is a picture-perfect destination.  DAY 6 - TAORMINA
Spend two full days exploring Taormina. The city still holds an abundance of cultural sites such as the striking Greek Theatre where performances still take place, the 13th century Cathedral of Saint Nicola and the 16th century Palace of the Dukes of San Stefano, all worth visiting during your stay.  DAY 7 - TAORMINA
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and they why not head out to the Corso Umberto, the city's prime shopping street. The area is home to elegant boutiques, classy cafes, and plenty of trattorias and pizzerias to experience the world-famous Sicilian cuisine (and wine of course!). (Overnight in Taormina) B

 DAY 8 – YOUR JOURNEY ENDS IN TAORMINA
