First, enjoy three days in Lucerne, with two spectacular day-trips to adjacent Mount Titlis and Mount Pilatus, respectively. Then, journey on to cosmopolitan Zurich, discovering all the best sights and incredible architecture of this historic city. This scenic rail journey works well as a pre/post Rhine River Cruise or as a stand-alone tour.

DAY 1 - BASEL TO LUCERNE
Your rail journey begins in Basel where you will board the direct train to Lucerne using your included 4-day Swiss Pass. Upon your arrival in Lucerne, check in at your hotel for a three-night stay. After you get settled, take some time to explore the old town's classical Swiss architecture, including the stunning Baroque Jesuit Church and the medieval Chapel Bridge. Or just enjoy the waterfront by renting a bike or wandering along the elegant promenade. (Overnight in Lucerne)

DAY 2 - DAY TRIP TO MOUNT TITLIS
After breakfast this morning, use your Swiss Pass to embark on a day excursion to stunning glaciers of Mount Titlis, nestled in the Swiss Alps, 9,800 feet above sea level. Take in panoramic views of the snowy mountaintops as you ascend on the Rotair revolving cable car and once at the top, discover and interact with the unique landscapes of glaciers and snow that surround you. (Overnight in Lucerne) B

DAY 3 - DAY TRIP TO MOUNT PILATUS
Today, enjoy an exciting trip on the steepest Cogwheel Railway in the world up to the top of the Pilatus Kulm. Your journey begins with a scenic, one hour steam cruise on Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad, where you will then take the 30 minutes ride, which has an average gradient of 35%. The Cogwheel Railway operates between May and November, while at other times of the year you can reach the top via a spectacular aerial gondola and cableway. Marvel at the view as you pass striking rock formations and alpine meadows. Once at the top, you'll find the historic Pilatus Kulm Hotel and Restaurant where you can have refreshments, or you can enjoy one of the numerous walking trails. Be on the lookout for the legendary dragon who has magical healing powers and is said to live in the mountain. After soaking up the wonderful views, make your way back down the mountain massif via the jaw dropping gondola and cable car to Kriens, and then a short bus ride back to Lucerne. DAY 4 - LUCERNE TO ZURICH
After breakfast this morning, take the direct train from Lucerne to Zurich, and upon arrival in Zurich, check in at your hotel for an overnight stay. Enjoy discovering the city at your leisure, perhaps ambling down the Lake Promenade and the winding streets of the Old Town, unearthing the artistic masterpieces of the Kunsthaus, watching operatic perfection at the famed Schauspielhaus, or shopping along Bahnhofstrasse, Switzerland's answer to the Champs-Élysées. (Overnight in Zurich) B

DAY 5 - DEPART ZURICH
After breakfast this morning, check out of your hotel and continue with your travels. If you wish to extend your vacation, perhaps with an additional stop in a different destination, one of our Rail Specialists would be happy to help you with your options. B

Romantik Wilden Mann Luzern

The Romantik Hotel Wilden Mann is a traditional hotel with 51 bedrooms and suites set over seven historic Lucerne townhouses. The hotel has two restaurants, fine dining in the Wilden Mann Stube, and the Burgerstube, serving regional Swiss cuisine. The hotel is located in the centre of Lucerne's old town, 200 metres from the famous Chapel Bridge and a few minutes walk to the train station.

Du Theatre Zurich

The Hotel du Théâtre in Zurich is a historic hotel which was a theatre during the 1950s.
