Syracuse
“The greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all” is how the Roman philosopher Cicero described Syracuse, a city founded on the island of Sicily in around 734 BC. Today, Syracuse is a stunning destination, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to a wealth of Greek and Roman monuments including temple, amphitheaters and fountains, not to mention the wonderful 7th century Cathedral. Visit the limestone cave named the “Ear of Dionysus,” admire the coastal views from the Ancient Theatre and don’t miss a trip to the Architecture Museum.
