Around the World in 80 days – London to IstanbulOctober 16th, 2009
You may have seen the programme “Around the World in 80 days” for BBC Children in Need. It featured comedians Frank Skinner and Lee Mack travelling across Europe to Istanbul. The journey started from Paris to Vienna on an overnight train. The journey on the overnight train was via Strasbourg and as you may have seen the overnight cabins were not the largest in the world!
Frank would have been more comfortable wearing his trendy pyjamas travelling on the route that Railbookers sends its customers. Eurostar to Brussels and then the modern ICE train to Cologne where customers can catch a better quality overnight train to Vienna. That train has much larger cabins with some deluxe cabins with ensuite bathrooms.
For customers wanting to go all the way from London to Istanbul by train (rather than stopping off for horse riding) we recommend travelling London to Brussels by Eurostar, Brussels to Cologne, then overnight train from Cologne to Vienna, before taking the train to Budapest. A day time train takes you from Budapest to Belgrade in Serbia, and another overnight train takes you from Belgrade to Istanbul. It’s a great way to see Europe, and makes the journey part of your holiday – and we would always recommend overnight stops in cities en route to make your journey more comfortable!
Good luck to the BBC Children in Need team!
