Gornergrat - The Matterhorn Railway

Head up to the Gornergrat (Gorner Ridge) for incredible views over the Alps. From the panoramic viewing platform you will be surrounded by 29 Alpine peaks, including the Matterhorn.

Gornergrat is accessible all year from Zermatt on the Gornergrat Bahn which has been running for over 100 years. Gornergrat Bahn is Europe’s highest open-air cogwheel railway and it departs daily every 24 minutes, climbing to the Gornergrat 9km away.

On its journey to the ridge the train crosses magnificent bridges and passes peaceful forests and alpine meadows. You can get on and off the train at any of the stops along the way and go for a mountain stroll or even a real challenge such as the tough 800 metre climb from Riffelap staion to the Gornegrat. There is also an opportunity to hire bikes.

The Gornergrat Bahn runs every day, with one train every 24 minutes, from 07:10-19:12, but there is a reduced service in the low season.
