Itinerary - 5 Night Holiday By Air

London to Lausanne - Day 1-2

Fly with British Airways from London to Geneva, then take the train directly from the airport to Lausanne (approximately 50 minutes). Stay at the Alpha Palmiers hotel , which is a two minute walk from the station

Set on the shore of Lake Geneva, with the Jura mountains to the North, Lausanne is a charming city which combines fascinating museums and elegant architecture. Visit the gothic Cathedral, wander through the historic streets of the old town, and relax beside the lake.

Don't want to fly? Then ask for a quote to travel by train the whole way to Swizterland and back. Take the Eurostar to Paris and then change onto the superb high speed TGV Lyria train to Switzerland.

The Golden Pass Line - Day 2

After breakfast take the train to Montreux. On arrival, transfer onto the Golden Pass Line. There are two different types of carriages, modern panoramic and vintage 1915 belle epoque.

Leaving Montreux, the train rises above Lake Geneva with magnificent views of the Swiss Riviera. At Jaman, the Golden Pass train plunges through a mountain tunnel, before heading for the resorts of Châteaux d’Oex and Gstaad.
The Golden Pass Line reaches its highest point (1,274m) before reaching Zweisimmen.

From Zweisimmen, the GoldenPass Line winds through the Simme Valley (home of the famous Swiss Simmental cows) before arriving into Interlaken located between Lakes Thun and Brienz.

Railbookers Recommends to ask for a price to upgrade your Golden Pass Line reservation to "VIP" seats. These seats are at the front of the train, right above the driver so it feels like you are actually driving the train!!

Interlaken - Day 2-4

On arrival check-in for 2 nights at the Hotel du Nord.

The Hotel du Nord is a traditional hotel with 46 bedrooms, situated in the centre of Interlaken and within easy walking distance of the train station. The hotel is entirely non-smoking and has a restaurant, a bar and the oldest wine-cellar in Interlaken!

Jungfrau Excursion - Day 3

Travel to Europe's highest altitude railway station on the Jungfrau mountain (3454 metres). This is a unique trip which takes you to Kleine Scheidegg before climbing to the station at Eigergletscher, well known for its mountain restaurant and Huskies.

After spectacular sightseeing through large observation windows hewn from solid Alpine rock, you arrive at the Jungfraujoch, where you have incredible views (on a clear day) to the Vosges Mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany. The Great Aletsch Glacier, at 22 km the longest ice-stream in the Alps, begins on the Jungfrau Mountain. Travel back from the Jungfrau for your second night at the Du Nord Hotel in Interlaken.

Glacier Express to Chur - Day 4

Depart Interlaken after breakfast and travel to Brig over the spectacular Lötschberg mountain via Kandersteg to arrive in Brig where Glacier Express departs.

Once in Brig you connect with the world famous Glacier Express and take a panoramic trip through the Swiss Alps from Brig to Chur. The journey takes approximately 5 hours and is probably the slowest express train in the world! Travel in comfort through the unspoilt natural beauty of mountain forests, peaceful Alpine meadows, rushing mountain streams and valleys.

Railbookers Recommends asking for a price to upgrade your travel on the Glacier Express to 1st class for larger seats and a more comfortable journey.

Chur - Day 4

On arrival in Chur check in to the ABC Chur Hotel.

The ABC Chur is a contemporary boutique hotel close to the main railway station, in the centre of town.

The "oldest city in Switzerland", Chur, is situated in a deep valley formed by the Rhine, has a rich and powerful history and was founded by the Romans in 15BC.

Bernina Express - Day 5

After an early breakfast, depart from Chur on the Bernina Express to Tirano via St Moritz. The train crosses the Alps and offers breathtaking views from the panoramic carriages. Ride over spectacular viaducts, through sheer rock gorges and switch-back tunnels, alongside mountain streams and glaciers.

Be sure not to miss the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which will appear on your right just before St Moritz.

The train climbs up the 2253 metre high Bernina Pass and the entire trip is narrated. Food is available to buy on the train. This whole area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The line finishes in the Italian border town of Tirano and after time for a bite to eat you board the train back to Chur to spend your second night at the ABC Hotel.

Chur to London - Day 6

Take the train from Chur to Zurich where you fly with British Airways to London.

Spend the evening by the lake in the old town district of Niederdorf, famous for its bars, restaurants, lounges and fashion shops for the young and stylish.
