Itinerary - 6 Night Holiday By Rail
Day 1 - Travel from London to Vienna
Thalys at Cologne Central Station
Travel on Eurostar from London to Brussels and then transfer onto the Thalys train to Cologne. Once In Cologne you transfer onto the overnight train to Vienna which arrives the next morning.
Railbookers recommends to upgrade your cabin on the overnight train to "Deluxe". Deluxe cabins are larger and also have an ensuite bathroom.
Days 2-3 - Vienna
St Stephens Cathedral, Vienna
On arrival in Vienna check-in for your two night stay at the centrally located Hotel Am Konzerthaus.
You then have two full days to discover arguably Europe's most classical city.
St. Stephen’s Cathedral is well worth a visit, situated in the heart of Vienna. Its roof is one of Vienna’s most famous landmarks . The church was built in the 12th century and completely revamped in Gothic style during the 14th century.
Vienna State Opera
Also try and fit in a visit to The Wiener Staatoper (Vienna State Opera). This State Opera is famed all around the world thanks to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and their opera performances. The festive building itself was built 1869 in an Italian Renaissance style. Railbookers can arrange any extras in Vienna.
Day 4 Vienna - Salzburg
Salzburg
Take the train from Vienna to Salzburg which takes approximately 3 hours.
On arrival check-in for a two night stay at the Austrotel Salzburg.
The Austrotel Salzburg Hotel is set in a historic building which was originally built as the residence for Archbishop Paris Lodron.The hotel is in the old town area of Salzburg, a short walk from Mirabell Castle.
Day 5 - Salzburg
Hohensalzburg Fortress, Salzburg
Spend a full day Austria’s most picturesque city which is steeped in history and culture.
Be sure not to miss the Hohensalzburg Fortress which dates back to 1077. The Hohensalzburg Fortress is the largest completely preserved fortress in central Europe and has served as a place of refuge for the archbishops during the Hungarian War and the Peasants’ War as well as a military barracks and a prison. Nowadays the fortress is open to the public.
Mozart’s birthplace
Mozart's birthplace A visit to Salzburg wouldn’t be complete without going to the birth place of the world's most famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The house is now a museum dedicated to Mozart where you can look at various fascinating exhibits, including his musical instruments and correspondence from the Mozart family.
Day 6 - Salzburg to Munich
City Hall, Marienplatz, Munich.
After breakfast take the train from Salzburg to Munich.
On arrival check-in for an overnight night stay at the Courtyard Munich City Centre, situated next to the station
Spend an afternoon exploring the capital of Bavarian Germany.
Munich is one of the most picturesque cities in Germany and, set in the heart of Bavaria, can offer travellers an unforgettable experience.
The centrepiece of the city has to be Marienplatz, with its wealth of bars and restaurants which dot the streets leading to and from the square. It is also the site of the majestic new town hall, with its central spire reaching up into the sky.
Away from the town centre, where many shops and restaurants can be found, there are a number of large parks where a relaxing time can be spent in the Bavarian sun. For one, there is the OlympiaPark, which has rolling hills, a lake where displays are often held and the magnificent Olympic Stadium. Another is the English Garden, a sprawling park perfect for a relaxing stroll.
Day 7 - Munich to London
Travel by high speed train to Frankfurt before changing to Brussels and then finaly the Eurostar back to London
Nuremberg
Railbookers Recommends to break up your journey on the return with a night or two in the medieval city of Nuremberg. The city has an array of historical buildings, including the Imperial Castle and in the run up to Christmas the city has the largest Christmas Market in the whole of Germany.

Vienna

The city’s beautiful architecture offers a romantic setting. Wander along narrow medieval alleyways, relax in a coffee house or spend an evening in a traditional wine tavern.
Salzburg
The historic city of Salzburg is dominated by the hilltop Hohensalzburg Fortress, and distant views of the Alps. Famous for "The Sound of Music" and Mozart you can enjoy Salzburg's musical heritage and visit the baroque old town.
Munich
Munich is one of the most picturesque cities in Germany and, set in the heart of Bavaria, can offer travellers an unforgettable experience.
After the pounding that the city received during the Second World War, Munich was rebuilt almost entirely into one of the most modern and stylish cities in Germany.
And for history fans, there is still plenty of heritage in this Bavarian city to keep them interested. The old town hall, for example, dates from the 15th century and currently houses a toy museum which contains items from the early part of the 19th century.
The centrepiece of the city has to be Marienplatz, with its wealth of bars and restaurants which dot the streets leading to and from the square. It is also the site of the majestic new town hall, with its central spire reaching up into the sky.
The new town hall is a large gothic building which is famed for its still-working Glockenspiel, where figures perform the Schläffertanz or cooper's dance, which was first performed in the square in 1517 to celebrate the end of the plague in the city.
