Days 1-2 - Singapore

M 5 Star Mandarin Oriental Singapore

A transfer picks you up at Singapore airport and takes you to the Mandarin Oriental Singapore for a 2 night stay.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Singapore is a contemporary hotel with luxury bedrooms and suites. Enjoy a treatment in the beautiful Oriental Spa, cool off in the hotel's pool, or enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the hotel's 6 restaurants, cafés or bars. The hotel is in the centre of Singapore, on Marina Square and opposite the Esplanade. The shops on Orchard Road are 10 minutes from the hotel.

Day 3 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur

The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Singapore’s Keppel Road station in the morning. Having been welcomed onboard the gleaming carriages, settle into your compartment. Enjoy the passing scenery as the train crosses to Malaysia via the causeway of the Straits of Johor. Lunch is served in one of the opulent dining cars. Dress for dinner and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car in the company of our resident pianist. During the evening, the E&O pauses at Kuala Lumpur’s magnificent Moorish-style station where you may disembark for a stroll. Retire to your compartment which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom.

Day 4 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Georgetown Georgetown

Breakfast is taken in your compartment before arriving in Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to colonial Georgetown, capital of Penang, on the local ferry. Enjoy a guided introductory tour with pre-World War II mosques, elaborately-roofed temples, churches, bazaars and colourful shophouses. Reboard the waiting coaches for the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and the Eastern & Oriental Express for lunch. As the train crosses into Thailand spend the afternoon watching the changing scenery from the open deck of the Observation Car or relax in the comfort of the Saloon Car. Dinner is served in the sumptuous dining car.

Day 5 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Bangkok Bangkok

Arrive at the River Kwai Bridge Station, where you disembark for a cruise on the river on board a local raft and afterwards for a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre. Rejoin the train for lunch, arriving in Bangkok in the afternoon.

Day 5-7 - Bangkok

On arrival in Bangkok check-in for your 2 night stay at the Peninsula Hotel.

The Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok is a luxury hotel designed in the shape of a wave, with panoramic views over Bangkok. After breakfast on day 7 you fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap in Cambodia. On arrival check-in for a 3 night stay at the La Residence d'Angkor.

Each of the 55 bedrooms has been individually decorated using traditional hardwoods, bamboo and natural textiles. The Eastern & Oriental Express offers three grades of beautifully appointed compartments: Superior Cabins, State Cabins and Presidential Suites. The interior walls are cherry wood and elm burr paneled, adorned with decorative marquetry and intricate inlays. Each cabin is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and has large picture windows for views of the passing scenery. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer. The Eastern & Oriental Express has 30 Superior Cabins that measure 62 square feet. During the daytime the compartment is a private lounge with a banquette style sofa. At night the seating converts to an upper and lower bed. A private en suite shower, washbasin and WC is also provided in your cabin.

Chefs on board the Eastern & Oriental Express create a tantalising variety of Eastern and European dishes, using the finest fresh seasonal ingredients. Lunch and dinner are served in the two Restaurant Cars, each lavishly decorated with rosewood and elm panelling. Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea, juice and fruit is delivered to your compartment and for those passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car from 7.00am onwards.

Itinerary - 9 Night Luxury Holiday By Rail

Days 1-2 - Singapore

R 5 Star Raffles Hotel Singapore

A transfer picks you up at Singapore airport and takes you to the Raffles Hotel Singapore for a 2 night stay.

The Raffles Hotel in Singapore is one of the world's most famous hotels. Enjoy your stay in one of the hotel's luxurious bedrooms or suites, discover the history of the Golden Age of Travel at the Raffles Museum, cool off with a dip in the rooftop pool, relax with a treatment in the spa, or enojy a Singapore Sling cocktail at the Long Bar. The hotel is in the centre of Singapore, a 2 minute ride on Mass Rapid Transit (train) from the Orchard Road shops.

Day 3 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur

The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Singapore’s Keppel Road station in the morning. Having been welcomed onboard the gleaming carriages, settle into your compartment. Enjoy the passing scenery as the train crosses to Malaysia via the causeway of the Straits of Johor. Lunch is served in one of the opulent dining cars. Dress for dinner and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car in the company of our resident pianist. During the evening, the E&O pauses at Kuala Lumpur’s magnificent Moorish-style station where you may disembark for a stroll. Retire to your compartment which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom.

Day 4 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Georgetown Georgetown

Breakfast is taken in your compartment before arriving in Butterworth. Here coaches take you across to colonial Georgetown, capital of Penang, on the local ferry. Enjoy a guided introductory tour with pre-World War II mosques, elaborately-roofed temples, churches, bazaars and colourful shophouses. Reboard the waiting coaches for the short ferry ride back to Butterworth and the Eastern & Oriental Express for lunch. As the train crosses into Thailand spend the afternoon watching the changing scenery from the open deck of the Observation Car or relax in the comfort of the Saloon Car. Dinner is served in the sumptuous dining car.

Day 5 - Eastern & Oriental Express

Bangkok Bangkok

Arrive at the River Kwai Bridge Station, where you disembark for a cruise on the river on board a local raft and afterwards for a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre. Rejoin the train for lunch, arriving in Bangkok in the afternoon.

Day 5-7 - Bangkok

After breakfast on day 7 you fly from Bangkok to Siem Reap in Cambodia. On arrival check-in for a 2 night stay at the La Residence d'Angkor.

The Thai capital offers plenty to do and see for every visitor. Explore some of Bangkok's golden topped temples including the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, shop at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, or take a Thai cooking lesson.

Siem Reap is the closest city to the incredible temple complex at Angkor Wat. You can easily spend several days exploring the vast site, look out for huge stone faces peering out from behind tree roots and detailed bas-relief friezes decorating the temples.

The Eastern & Oriental Express offers three grades of beautifully appointed compartments: Superior Cabins, State Cabins and Presidential Suites. The interior walls are cherry wood and elm burr paneled, adorned with decorative marquetry and intricate inlays. Each cabin is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and has large picture windows for views of the passing scenery. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer. The Eastern & Oriental Express has 30 Superior Cabins that measure 62 square feet. During the daytime the compartment is a private lounge with a banquette style sofa. At night the seating converts to an upper and lower bed. A private en suite shower, washbasin and WC is also provided in your cabin.

Chefs on board the Eastern & Oriental Express create a tantalising variety of Eastern and European dishes, using the finest fresh seasonal ingredients. Lunch and dinner are served in the two Restaurant Cars, each lavishly decorated with rosewood and elm panelling. Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea, juice and fruit is delivered to your compartment and for those passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car from 7.00am onwards.

The Observation Car is located at the very end of the train. Its interior section is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails amidst a colonial ‘veranda’ ambience with its teak wood flooring, paneled walls, rattan furniture and potted plants.
One-third of the Observation Car is an outdoor observation area decorated with teakwood. Offering unobstructed views, it is the perfect place to take photographs of the panoramic scenery and experience the sights, sounds and scents of South East Asia.
