Days 1-4 - Bangkok
On arrival in Bangkok you are picked up and transferred to check-in for 3 nights at the Peninsula Hotel.
The Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok is a luxury hotel designed in the shape of a wave, with panoramic views over Bangkok. Stay in one of the hotel's classically designed 370 bedrooms and suites, enjoy a dip in the hotel's beautiful 3 level swimming pool, or book in for a treatment in the stunning spa, surrounded by lush tropical gardens. For dinner or lunch choose from Jesters (Mediterranean food), Mei Jiang (gourmet Cantonese menu), or the open air Thiptara which offers Thai food. A traditional afternoon tea is served in the Lobby. The hotel is in the centre of Bangkok on the Chao Phraya River Bank, the hotel is close to the Bangkok Sky Train (BTS) Saphan Taksin Station.
Optional Bangkok tours are available including a visit to the Grand Palace or Jim Thomson's House.
Day 4 - Eastern & Oriental Express
Depart from Bangkok’s Hualampong station early in the evening. After being welcomed on board the gold and green-liveried carriages, settle into your compartment. Dinner is served as the train leaves the city behind and travels into the Thai countryside. Retire to your compartment, now transformed into a bedroom by your personal steward.
Day 5 - Eastern & Oriental Express
Early risers will catch the excitement of the train making its way along the trestle viaduct from Wang Po. Later, the train arrives at River Kwai Bridge station, where you disembark for a river cruise on board a local raft. During the cruise, a local historian provides a brief overview of the history of the Thailand-Burma railway and the bridge. Disembark for a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and, for those who wish, the Don Rak war cemetery. Rejoin the train for lunch and a relaxing afternoon followed by dinner and a further night on board. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included).
Day 6 - Eastern & Oriental Express
Brunch is served before arriving in Butterworth, where you cross by coach on the local ferry to Penang Island. Your visit includes a trip to the Kho Kongsi clan house, a trishaw ride and a drink at the charming Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Return to the train, perhaps visiting the observation car before dinner and a final night on board.
Days 7-9 - Singapore
Arrive in Singapore, where you stay for two nights at the Mandarin Oriental Singapore.
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Singapore is a contemporary hotel with luxury bedrooms and suites. Enjoy a treatment in the beautiful Oriental Spa, cool off in the hotel's pool, or enjoy lunch or dinner in one of the hotel's 6 restaurants, cafés or bars. The hotel is in the centre of Singapore, on Marina Square and opposite the Esplanade. The shops on Orchard Road are 10 minutes from the hotel.
This contemporary city with its spectacular buildings is enhanced by touches of its colonial past. There is much to see and do—beautiful botanical gardens, museums, galleries and, of course, shopping—which is practically a national pastime.
Day 9, a transfer picks you up from the hotel after breakfast and transfers you to the airport or to another departure point to continue your journey.
Bangkok
The Thai capital offers plenty to do and see for every visitor. Explore some of Bangkok's golden topped temples including the Grand Palace and Wat Pho, shop at the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, or take a Thai cooking lesson.
Singapore
Singapore is a cosmopolitan city - combining Chinese, Malay and Indian culture and food. Shop along Orchard Road, spot wildlife at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, relax on the beach, or sample the famous Singapore Sling at the Raffles Hotel.
The Eastern & Oriental Express offers three grades of beautifully appointed compartments: Superior Cabins, State Cabins and Presidential Suites. The interior walls are cherry wood and elm burr paneled, adorned with decorative marquetry and intricate inlays. Each cabin is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and has large picture windows for views of the passing scenery. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer. The Eastern & Oriental Express has 30 Superior Cabins that measure 62 square feet. During the daytime the compartment is a private lounge with a banquette style sofa. At night the seating converts to an upper and lower bed. A private en suite shower, washbasin and WC is also provided in your cabin.

Chefs on board the Eastern & Oriental Express create a tantalising variety of Eastern and European dishes, using the finest fresh seasonal ingredients. Lunch and dinner are served in the two Restaurant Cars, each lavishly decorated with rosewood and elm panelling. Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea, juice and fruit is delivered to your compartment and for those passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car from 7.00am onwards.
The Observation Car is located at the very end of the train. Its interior section is the perfect place to enjoy cocktails amidst a colonial ‘veranda’ ambience with its teak wood flooring, paneled walls, rattan furniture and potted plants.
One-third of the Observation Car is an outdoor observation area decorated with teakwood. Offering unobstructed views, it is the perfect place to take photographs of the panoramic scenery and experience the sights, sounds and scents of South East Asia.
