Discovered by the Voortrekkers in 1837, Pretoria (named after one of the early settlers, Andrieus Pretorius) became a focal point of the Boer community and is now the administrative and diplomatic capital of South Africa. The Palace of Justice, Raadsaal (Parliament) and Voortrekker Monument are all impressive buildings. In autumn, the city comes alive with beautiful lavender Jacaranda trees.
