Itinerary - 5 Night Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Lucerne

Travel on the Eurostar from London to Paris, where you transfer onto the high speed TGV service to Lucerne via Basel. Speed through the French Champagne region passing quaint French villages and picturesque countryside before arriving into Lucerne in time for dinner.

Check in at the Waldstaetterhof Hotel for your overnight stay.

Lucerne is situated in an idyllic spot on the edge of the lake of the same name and ringed by mountains. Wander through the car-free old town with its half-timbered houses and pretty squares.

Day 2

Lucerne to Venice

Depart Lucerne in the morning and travel to Venice on one of the most scenic routes in Europe, the Gotthard Pass. Relax whilst the train cuts through the Alps and down into Italy. As well as the stunning mountain scenery the train runs next to Lakes Lugano and Como. Arrive into Venice's famous Santa Lucia station in the early afternoon.

Venice is a unique city made up of numerous islands on the Adriatic coast. Spend your first evening getting lost in the narrow maze of streets, canals and squares until you find the perfect trattoria for dinner.

Day 3

Venice

Continue your exploration of Venice by visiting some of the Venetian masterpieces such as the Basilica of San Marco adorned with Byzantine architecture and glimmering angels dotted across the ceilings. Alternatively take a stroll along St. Mark's Basin up the waterfront promenade, with the bell towers of San Giorgio Maggiore on the left and San Marco on the right.

Stop for a glass of prosecco in the heart of Venice, the Piazza San Marco on your return. After dinner, take a boat trip along the Canal Grande and marvel at the beautiful lights which illuminate it as you pass under the famous Rialto Bridge.

Day 4

Venice to Rome

After breakfast, sit back and relax on your journey to Rome. Pass quaint Italian villages and rolling fields before arriving at Rome Termini (journey time approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes). On arrival, check in at the Mascagni Rome for your 2 night stay.

Italy's capital city since the country's unification in 1861, Rome was also once famously the capital of a huge empire which at one time stretched from southern Scotland to the Caspian Sea. There are plenty of remnants of this empire to see all over the centre of the city.

Day 5

Rome

Spend a full day exploring the sights of Rome. Enjoy a day at the Vatican City, seeing the gigantic St Peter's Basilica and exploring the labyrinthine corridors and galleries of the Vatican Museums. Don't miss a look at the Sistine Chapel's famous ceiling while you are here!

Alternatively, head to the Colosseum for a guided tour or relax in the Borghese Gardens. In the evening, why not enjoy a drink (or gelato) in the Piazzi di Spagna at the foot of the Spanish Steps?

Rome to London

Today, check out of your hotel and travel from Rome back to London with BritIsh Airways in Euro Traveller class.

Rome to Turin

From Rome Termini, take the Eurostar Italia train service to Turin (journey time approximately 4 hours 15 minutes). On arrival in Turin, check in at the Town House 70 Turin for your overnight stay.

Spend the rest of the day at leisure in the historic city of Turin. Visit the Palazzo Carignano, home to the first Italian Parliament and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, or head to the National Cinema Museum, housed in the city's famous Mole Antonelliana building. Alternatively, take a rack railway line up to the Basilica di Superga for great city views.

Day 7

Turin to London

From Turin, travel the scenic journey to Paris, catching glimpses of the French Alps, before stopping for lunch in romantic Paris or transferring straight onto your Eurostar back to London.
