The route of this spectacular journey follows the shores of Lake Lucerne before plunging through the Gotthard Pass. Travel down through high mountain passes, wide green valleys and alpine villages perched precariously on the hillsides. Look out for a glimpse of Lake Lugano as you cross the border into Italy at Chiasso.

On arrival in Venice, check in for a 3 night stay at the Ai Mori d' Oriente Hotel .

Days 4 and 5

Venice

Possibly more than any other city in the world, Venice’s reputation precedes it. But, if you’ve not been before you are in for a treat, because this destination more than lives up to expectations. From the azure blue of the lagoon and canals to the iconic Campanile and Doge’s palace leading into St Mark’s Square and the Basilica di San Marco, there’s a picture postcard view in every direction.

Climb St Mark’s Campanile for stunning views of the city, see the Grand Canal palazzos from the water with a gondola ride, get away from it all at the Peggy Guggenheim museum, hit the beach at the Lido or shop for Murano glass and Venetian carnival masks in one of the many boutiques.

Day 6

Venice to Munich

After lunch, catch the direct service from Santa Lucia Station to Munich. Travel through Verona, Trento and Innsbruck on the stunning Brenner Alpine pass, watching snowy peaks, green valleys and glacial rivers pass by your window.

Arrive in the evening in Munich and check in at the comfortable Courtyard Munich City Centre for a 2 night stay. The hotel is situated very close to Munich's main station.

Day 7

Munich

Spend a full day in Munich which will give you an opportunity to visit some of Munich's sights and attractions.

Marvel at the architecture of the Marienplatz, visit the largest cathedral in the city, the Frauenkirche and uncover the legend behind the Teufelsschritt (Devil’s Footstep), take a tour of the renowned Deutsches Museum or relax in the beautiful Englischer Garten, one of the largest urban parks in the world.

No visit to Munich is complete without a visit to a beer hall. The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl is undoubtedly the most famous of these, where you can sample some weisswürste (white sausage) or schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) with your mass (litre glass) of beer.

Day 8

Munich to London

Travel back via Frankfurt and Brussels on the ultra modern high speed German ICE train, before catching the Eurostar back to London.
