Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Zurich

Travel on the Eurostar to Paris, where you transfer onto the famous TGV train to Zurich. Speed through the French Champagne region passing typical French villages and picturesque countryside before arriving into Zurich in time for dinner.

Check in at the Hotel du Théâtre for your overnight stay.

Once you have checked into your hotel, spend the evening exploring the lovely centre of Zurich which straddles the River Limmat. Enjoy dinner in the Old Town or perhaps take a boat out on peaceful Lake Zürich.

Day 2

Zurich to Venice

Depart Zurich in the morning and travel to Venice via Milan on one of the most scenic routes in Europe, the Gotthard Pass. Relax whilst the train cuts through the famous pass across the border into Italy over the Alps. As well as the stunning mountain scenery the train runs next to Lakes Lugano and Como. After a quick change over in Milan you arrive into Venice's famous Santa Lucia station in the early afternoon. On arrival, check in to the Ai Mori d' Oriente Hotel for your 3 night stay.

Settle into your hotel and then start your exploration of this famously beautiful city, stretched across 117 islands in the Venetian Lagoon.

Days 3 and 4

Venice

Spend two days at leisure in Venice. Why not discover some of the city's famous attractions such as the Piazza San Marco or the Rialto Bridge? You can also get a perfect introduction to the city with a ride along the Grand Canal, either by water bus (vaporetto) or by means of your own private gondola.

Away from the major thoroughfares, you can also visit beautiful galleries such as the Accademia or take in a performance at La Fenice, Venice's famous opera house and theatre. Why not enjoy a peaceful drink on Guidecca Island or wander around the shops in the traditional Cannaregio district?

Day 5

Venice to Sirmione

Leave Venice in the morning and take the Eurostar Italia train service to Desenzano del Garda. Once in Desenzano, Sirmione is a 5 minute taxi drive away. On arrival in Sirmione, check in at the Olivi Hotel Sirmione for a 3 night stay.

Sirmione blends lifestyles of activity and relaxation wonderfully and provides plenty of opportunities for bike riding along the lakeside, exploring the Roman castles and frescos, or making the most of the fabulous gastronomy and Italian wines.

Days 6 and 7

Sirmione

Spend two days unwinding in the idyllic town of Sirmione. Sirmione occupies a peninsula jutting out into Lake Garda and offers fabulous views from its lakeside promenade. But the interior of the town is also stunning, with narrow winding streets and pretty squares surrounded by a medieval town wall. Don't miss a visit to the Rocca Scaligera, a 13th century castle overlooking the lake or the ancient Villa Romana.

Day 8

Sirmione to London

Take the train from Desenzano del Garda to Verona and then connect to Verona Airport, before flying back with British Airways to London.

Venice

Venice

With its unique atmosphere, Venice has entranced visitors for centuries. Get lost in the winding narrow streets and pretty little campos. You will always end up back at the Grand Canal, with its grand palazzos and distinctive stripped mooring poles. Don’t miss the spectacular St Mark’s Square with its ornate Basilica or the little boutiques on and around the Rialto Bridge.

Sirmione

Sirmione

Situated in the Italian province of Brescia, Sirmione is one of the most popular towns on Lake Garda and has been a spa resort since Roman times. The lovely historical centre is pedestrianised and dominated by a 13th century castle, called the Rocca Scaligera which commands great views over the town and lake. Also worth visiting is the Villa Romana, an impressive ruin of a Roman villa associated with the poet Catullus.
