Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Lucerne

Travel on the Eurostar to Paris and then connect onto the high speed TGV Lyria to Basel on the border between France and Switzerland before catching a local service to Lucerne. On arrival, check in at the centrally located Waldstaetterhof Hotel for an overnight stay.

Lucerne is situated in an idyllic spot on the edge of the lake of the same name and ringed by mountains. Enjoy an evening wandering through the car-free old town with its half-timbered houses and pretty squares. Take a look at the famous bridges crossing the River Reuss such as the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) with its distinctive Water Tower and enjoy dinner alongside the charming waterfront.

Day 2

Lucerne to Venice

After breakfast, board the direct service from Lucerne through the Swiss Alps to Venice. The route of this spectacular journey follows the shores of Lake Lucerne before plunging through the Gotthard Pass. Travel down through high mountain passes, wide green valleys and alpine villages perched precariously on the hillsides.

On arrival in Venice, check in to the historic Ai Mori d' Oriente Hotel for your 3 night stay.

Days 3 and 4

Venice

Possibly more than any other city in the world, Venice’s reputation precedes it. But, if you’ve not been before you are in for a treat, because this destination more than lives up to expectations. From the azure blue of the lagoon and canals to the iconic Campanile and Doge’s palace leading into St Mark’s Square and the Basilica di San Marco, there’s a picture postcard view in every direction.

Climb St Mark’s Campanile for stunning views of the city, see the Grand Canal palazzos from the water with a gondola ride, get away from it all at the Peggy Guggenheim museum, hit the beach at the Lido or shop for Murano glass and Venetian carnival masks in one of the many boutiques.

Day 5

Venice to Como

Following breakfast, take the Intercity train to Milan where you transfer for your brief 30 minute journey to Como.

On arrival in Como, check in to the Metropole & Suisse Hotel Como for your 3 night stay. Railbookers have included an upgrade to a Lake View Room so that you can experience the stunning views of Lake Como throughout your stay. The hotel is located just a few metres from the impressive cathedral and the buzzing Piazza which features wonderful art galleries, museums and restaurants.

Days 6 to 7

Como

Lake Como’s stunning location, ringed by mountains, has made it a popular destination for the rich and famous since Roman times. It combines beautiful historic architecture with stunning natural beauty. The centro storico, old town, is a maze of picturesque little streets, squares and pavement cafés. Wander around the shops and boutiques or visit one of the many cultural monuments the city has to offer.

The imposing gothic cathedral took 400 years to build and has a huge interior with three aisles and striking stained glass windows. The lake itself offers numerous opportunities for watersports, boat trips and even a spot of bathing. Take the funicular railway up to Brunate for panoramic views. Or why not just sit at a lakeside bar and drink in the scenery?

Day 8

Como to London

Return to Milan on the Eurocity train where you transfer onto your British Airways Euro Traveller Flight to London.

Don't want to fly? Then ask for a quote to travel the whole way back to the Uk by train. There is either a direct train to Paris from Milan or you could stop off en route in the picturesque lake side city of Lausanne. Both options involve travelling through more stunning scenery.
