Itinerary - 8 Night Luxury Holiday by Rail - Silver Class Cabin

Day 1

Arrive Moscow

Arrive into Moscow Domodedevo Airport and transfer to the Marriott Royal Aurora Moscow for an overnight stay.

In the evening, enjoy a ballet or opera at the world renowned Bolshoi Theatre. Originally opened in 1856, the theatre has undergone a six year long refurbishment costing $800m and reopens in late Autumn 2011. The Bolshoi Ballet and Opera company is one of the oldest and most highly regarded in the world with a long and illustrious history.

Day 2

Moscow

After breakfast this morning, take a city tour of central Moscow. The tour focuses on Red Square, home to iconic Soviet monuments such as the colourful, onion domed St Basil's Cathedral and the mighty Kremlin. There's also the chance to see Lenin's Tomb which contains the Communist leader's embalmed body. Enjoy lunch in the Godunov Restaurant before choosing your own activity for the afternoon. Opt for a historical tour of the Bolshoi theatre, a visit to the Tretyakov Museum of Russian Fine Art, or a tour of the KGB Museum. In the late evening, board the gleaming blue and gold carriages of the Golden Eagle and settle into your private Silver Class cabin as the train departs for Vladimir.

Day 3

Vladimir and Suzdal

This morning, arrive into Vladimir, a historic city dating back to 990. Your tour will take in the sumptuous Uspensky or Assumption Cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where many prominent Tsars are buried. The excursion then moves on to Suzdal, dating back a thousand years and one of Russia's best preserved walled towns. You will visit the St Euthymius Monastery, founded in the 14th century, which features some stunning frescos. Listen to a captivating performance by a male voice choir before heading back to the train.

Day 4

Kiev

On arrival in the Ukrainian capital city Kiev, enjoy a tour which includes the amazing Monastery of Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1077 by St Antoniy, Saint Sophia's Cathedral and the massive Mother Ukrainia World War Two Monument and Museum. In the evening, enjoy a performance in the Ukranian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, a beautiful neo-renaissance building in the heart of the city.

Day 5

Odessa

This morning, the Golden Eagle heads towards the Black Sea and arrives at lunchtime into Odessa. Spend the afternoon visiting sights such as the tree-lined Primorsky Boulevard and the Potemkin Steps. Tonight's performance takes place in the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre which first opened its doors in 1810.

Day 6

Onboard

Spend a day enjoying life onboard the train and the passing scenery outside, as the Golden Eagle makes its way through the Ukraine and Russia, towards St Petersburg. You have the option of attending an interesting lecture on Russian Classical music in the bar car or simply relaxing in the comfortable surroundings of your cabin.

Day 7

Arrive St Petersburg

After breakfast, the Golden Eagle arrives into Pushkin where you will disembark for the last time. Your luggage will be taken on to the Kempinski Moika 22 St Petersburg where you will be spending your last 2 nights.

You will visit Catherine the Great's Summer Palace with its famous Amber Room before enjoying lunch at the Podvorye Restaurant in nearby Pavlovsk accompanied by a performance of Russian folk music. Travel on to St Petersburg and spend an afternoon and evening at leisure. You can choose to book a theatre performance in St Petersburg (at extra cost) in the evening.

Day 8

St Petersburg

Spend a morning on the tour of your choice around this beautiful Imperial capital. Visit the largest art gallery in the world, the Hermitage Museum, mighty St Isaac's Cathedral or the Vaganova Choreographic School, the world's finest and most influential ballet school.

For your final evening, you will go for a performance at the Mariinsky Theatre, one of the best musical theatres in the world more commonly known by its Soviet name 'Kirov'. After the performance there will be a reception hosted by the Chairman of the Mariinsky Theatre Trust, Lady Solti with Guest of Honour Valery Gergiev who is the General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre and Principal conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra. This reception is exclusively for Golden Eagle guests and marks a fitting end to a once in a lifetime holiday.

Day 9

Depart St Petersburg

After breakfast, transfer to St Petersburg Airport for your onward journey.

The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Silver sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 60 sq ft. Silver Class cabins a private en-suite bathroom with a ‘wet-room’ style shower, a toilet, and all of the amenities that are provided in a New Heritage Class cabin. Silver Class cabins sleep 2 in a lower small double bed (4ft) or bunk style.

Gold Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Gold sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 77 sq ft. Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.

Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. There's also the chance to see Lenin's Tomb which contains the Communist leader's embalmed body. Enjoy lunch in the Godunov Restaurant before choosing your own activity for the afternoon. Opt for a historical tour of the Bolshoi theatre, a visit to the Tretyakov Museum of Russian Fine Art, or a tour of the KGB Museum. In the late evening, board the gleaming blue and gold carriages of the Golden Eagle and settle into your private Imperial Suite cabin as the train departs for Vladimir.

Day 3

Vladimir and Suzdal

This morning, arrive into Vladimir, a historic city dating back to 990. Your tour will take in the sumptuous Uspensky or Assumption Cathedral, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where many prominent Tsars are buried. The excursion then moves on to Suzdal, dating back a thousand years and one of Russia's best preserved walled towns. You will visit the St Euthymius Monastery, founded in the 14th century, which features some stunning frescos. Listen to a captivating performance by a male voice choir before heading back to the train.

Day 4

Kiev

On arrival in the Ukrainian capital city Kiev, enjoy a tour which includes the amazing Monastery of Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 1077 by St Antoniy, Saint Sophia's Cathedral and the massive Mother Ukrainia World War Two Monument and Museum. In the evening, enjoy a performance in the Ukranian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, a beautiful neo-renaissance building in the heart of the city.

Day 5

Odessa

This morning, the Golden Eagle heads towards the Black Sea and arrives at lunchtime into Odessa. Spend the afternoon visiting sights such as the tree-lined Primorsky Boulevard and the Potemkin Steps. Tonight's performance takes place in the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre which first opened its doors in 1810.

Day 6

Onboard

Spend a day enjoying life onboard the train and the passing scenery outside, as the Golden Eagle makes its way through the Ukraine and Russia, towards St Petersburg. You have the option of attending an interesting lecture on Russian Classical music in the bar car or simply relaxing in the comfortable surroundings of your cabin.

Day 7

Arrive St Petersburg

After breakfast, the Golden Eagle arrives into Pushkin where you will disembark for the last time. Your luggage will be taken on to the Kempinski Moika 22 St Petersburg where you will be spending your last 2 nights.

You will visit Catherine the Great's Summer Palace with its famous Amber Room before enjoying lunch at the Podvorye Restaurant in nearby Pavlovsk accompanied by a performance of Russian folk music. Travel on to St Petersburg and spend an afternoon and evening at leisure. You can choose to book a theatre performance in St Petersburg (at extra cost) in the evening.

Day 8

St Petersburg

Spend a morning on the tour of your choice around this beautiful Imperial capital. Visit the largest art gallery in the world, the Hermitage Museum, mighty St Isaac's Cathedral or the Vaganova Choreographic School, the world's finest and most influential ballet school.

For your final evening, you will go for a performance at the Mariinsky Theatre, one of the best musical theatres in the world more commonly known by its Soviet name 'Kirov'. After the performance there will be a reception hosted by the Chairman of the Mariinsky Theatre Trust, Lady Solti with Guest of Honour Valery Gergiev who is the General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre and Principal conductor with the London Symphony Orchestra. This reception is exclusively for Golden Eagle guests and marks a fitting end to a once in a lifetime holiday.

Day 9

Depart St Petersburg

After breakfast, transfer to St Petersburg Airport for your onward journey.

The 12 ensuite sleeping cars feature state of the art amenities. 77sq ft (7 sq m) Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and include power showers, underfloor heating, DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Silver Class cabins are more compact at 60 sq ft (5.5 sq m) but have similar facilities. Imperial Suites feature state of the art amenities and are 120 sq ft in size

The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Silver sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 60 sq ft. Silver Class cabins a private en-suite bathroom with a ‘wet-room’ style shower, a toilet, and all of the amenities that are provided in a New Heritage Class cabin. Silver Class cabins sleep 2 in a lower small double bed (4ft) or bunk style.

Gold Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Gold sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 77 sq ft. Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.

Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. Other amenities include individual air-conditioning, a DVD/CD player with LCD screen, and two large picture windows.
