Itinerary - 14 Night Holiday by Rail - Standard 4-Berth Cabin

Day 1

Beijing (Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square)

On arrival at Beijing, transfer to the Capital Hotel Beijing for a 2 night stay.

Settle into your hotel and then start your once in a lifetime trip with a guided tour of Beijing including the fascinating Temple of Heaven and the famous Tiananmen Square.
After a day of sightseeing, relax in the evening with drinks and dinner.

Day 2

Beijing (Great Wall)

Begin your day with a trip to the eighth wonder of the world; the incredible Great Wall of China! Along the way, visit a traditional pearl farm and the UNESCO World Heritage listed Ming Tombs, situated on the southern slopes of Tianshou Mountain at the end of the Spirit Way, an ancient 7 kilometre long road lined with statues of guardian animals.

To round off your day, enjoy Beijing’s celebrated Peking Duck in one of the city’s famous restaurants specialising in this famous dish.

Day 3

Forbidden City and departure for Mongolia

Today, enjoy a tour of the Forbidden City, a huge complex of buildings and courtyards which was home to the emperors of China from the 15th century until the last emperor’s abdication in 1912.

In the evening, board the train to begin your adventure! Pull out from Beijing station in a modern Chinese train and watch as the city opens up to reveal rural life in China. Take in the scenery as locals work in the fields, donkey carts trot through dusty roads and the Gobi desert appears on the horizon. Journey on to Mongolia as these incredible sights continue.

Day 4

The Gobi Desert

Awake for breakfast, before arriving at the Chinese-Mongolian border. Here, you will change on to your unique, Private Train. Stop here briefly as immigration formalities take place on board before continuing to Erlian. Discover this border town's beautiful market filled with colourful goods before travelling on. Voyage through the vast Gobi Desert before emerging into the green hills of Mongolia.

Day 5

Ulan Bator

Awake to the sights and sounds of Ulan Bator, Mongolia's capital. Transfer into Bayangol Ulan Bator for the evening before heading out to this captivating city. Visit the ancient Choijin Lama temple, shop for local crafts and in the evening, enjoy a local Mongolian music performance.

The Bayangol Ulan Bator Hotel is a modern 12 story building set in landscaped gardens. The restaurant is one of the largest in Mongolia and offers traditional and Mongolian food. The Health Club offers massages, a gym and a sauna. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of Ulan Bator.

Day 6

Gandan Monastery and the Mongolian Alps

Following breakfast, visit the stunning Buddhist Gandan Monastery before embarking on an excursion to the area's beautiful mountains which boast incredible rock formations. En route, visit an open-air railroad museum. Enjoy a typical picnic lunch in a yurt before watching a traditional wrestling match and demonstration of Mongolian horsemanship. Sample some distinctive Mongolian dishes, such as lamb in milk, a culinary speciality or for those brave enough, kumys (fermented mare's milk) which is known as the beer of the nomads.

After this incredible day, return to the train as your journey continues onwards.

Day 7

Ulan Ude

Say goodbye to Mongolia as the train heads through the striking Selenga Valley and across the largest river of Mongolia. Cross the Mongolian/Russian border and watch as the train joins the focal route of the Transsiberian Railroad. Stop in the interesting border town of Ulan Ude and take a walk through the city streets.

Day 8

Lake Baikal

Today, you will discover the beauty of Lake Baikal. After breakfast, arrive at the old station which is located on the banks of the lake. Explore the wonderful scenery and capture its magnificence with two photo shoots. Have a swim in the lake or alternatively visit Baikal Village, a picturesque village located next to the waters.

Enjoy dinner on the shores of the incredible natural wonder before boarding the train and heading for Irkutsk.

Day 9

Irkutsk

Check into the centrally located Irkutsk Hotel in the morning. Luggage can be left safely onboard the train. Take a tour of the city which includes a spectacular drama theatre and a newly built statue of the Tsar. Following lunch, take a trip to an open-air museum with fascinating exhibitions of Siberian life. Following the city tour, take a drive to a local village an experience a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Baikal.

Day 10

Across Siberia

Journey through the mesmerising landscape of Eastern Siberia. Sit back and relax whilst shimmering crystal-clear rivers, lush green valleys and distant mountains pass by. Enjoy the entertaining lectures provided by your guides whilst aboard the train and become a true local by sampling local vodka and caviar. A real Russian welcome!

Day 11

Novosibirsk

Arise and enjoy the spectacular scenery before arriving into Novosibirsk, Siberia’s biggest city. Following a typical Russian greeting;which includes bread, salt and balalaika music, take a trip into the city. Discover the vibrant sights and sounds of the city's lively market before returning to the train.

Day 12

Ekaterinburg

Following a morning travelling by train, stop in Ekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural Mountains in mid afternoon. Lying on the border between Asia and Europe, Ekaterinburg is a fascinating destination. Enjoy a short exploration to see the cities most influential sights, including the Cathedral-on-the-blood, built in memorial of the catastrophic events surrounding the death of Romanovs. From here, your train will now continue on European ground.

Day 13

Kazan

Today you journey to Kazan, located on the banks of the Volga River and famous as the old Tartar capital. Learn the remarkable history with a guided tour of the city which includes the infamous Kremlin. Discover the accounts of the often violent relations between the Tartars, Cossacks and Russians.

Following your trip, enjoy a peaceful boat ride and lunch whilst floating along the Volga River. Back on board, sample the delights of the train's superb restaurant for dinner and chat to fellow passengers about your trip as you journey overnight for the last time.

Day 14

Moscow

Arise and arrive at Russia's richest and most illustrious city, Moscow. Check in at the Renaissance Moscow for a 1 night stay. Take a guided tour of the city, stopping firstly at the Kremlin. Explore its stunning cathedrals and beautiful interiors of this wondrous architectural structure. Take some free time to discover the city before taking a magical evening trip through the city. Admire the sights and sounds of the Red Square and travel on the subway which includes a visit to two wonderful old stations.

The Renaissance Hotel in Moscow is a newly refurbished hotel. Bedrooms are spacious, and offer modern facilities. For dinner, lunch or drinks you are spoiled for choice with 6 restaurants, cafes or bars to choose from in the hotel. Cool off with a refreshing dip in the hotel's swimming pool.

Day 15

Moscow

Following breakfast, take a brief tour of the highlights of Moscow - Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Lomonossov University, the New Virgin Monastery and the dazzling St. Basil’s Cathedral. Stop by the notorious KGB headquarters and White House before heading back to the hotel.

Ulan Bator

The capital city of Mongolia, Ulan Bator was originally a Buddhist centre. Most of the buildings in the city were re-built after 1945, but some notable historic buildings remain including the gold roofed Tsogchin dugan, and Bogd Khan's Winter Palace.

Irkutsk

Irkutsk

One of the biggest cities in Siberia, Irkutsk became the home of many artists and intellectuals who were exiled to Siberia in the 19th century for their part in the revolts against the Tsar. Visit the Taltsy Museum, an open air exhibition of architecture.

Moscow

Moscow

The Russian capital Moscow has a rich sense of history, incredible architecture and wonderful museums and theatres. Stand in the huge Red Square and admire the famous Kremlin, visit the instantly recognisable St Basil's Cathedral with its colourful onion shaped domes, or enjoy a night out at the Bolshoi.

Between Moscow and the Chinese-Mongolian border in Erlian (and vice versa) your Private Train offers five different compartment categories ranging from the budget category with shared facilities to the best possible comfort available on the Trans-Siberian route with private facilities. No matter which compartment type you choose, all of them are about twice as large as typical European sleeping car compartments.

Standard Cabin
In the ”STANDARD” CATEGORY (I), there are nine compartments per car, each for 3 or 4 guests. On both sides, left and right, there are two berths, one upon the other and each of them sized 70x190cm. In the middle, below the window, you will find a table. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of the car.

Standard Plus Cabin
In the STANDARD PLUS CATEGORY (II), there are 9 compartments per car. A compartment is shared by two guests. Berths are sized app. 70 x 190 cm and arranged facing each other. There is also a table under the window. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of this category’s cars. In every second car there is a shower compartment.

Nostalgic Comfort Cabin
The NOSTALGIC COMFORT CATEGORY (III) carriages are traditionally furnished with modern amenities. You’ll be travelling in an ambiance in which even former Soviet leaders would have felt at home – although with the comfort of the 21st century. Each of these rolling hotel rooms offers two large berths (app. 80 x 185 cm) and an armchair for an especially comfortable view of the changing landscapes. Two compartments share one bathroom, located in a small lavatory between every two compartments.

Bolshoi Cabin
The BOLSHOI CATEGORY (IV) is equipped with two beds, one of which measures 1,10 m x 1,90 m, even providing room for two people if required. Furthermore, the 5,57 m² large compartments offer a cosy seating bench, a commodious table and a wardrobe. The compartment’s exclusive en suite bathroom does not only contain a washing basin, WC and shower, but also enough storage space for your personal belongings. Each car of the Bolshoi category has only six compartments.

Bolshoi Platinum Cabin
The newly introduced BOLSHOI PLATINUM CATEGORY (V) features the highest possible comfort on the Trans-Siberian. Each compartment is 7,15 m² large and provided with full shower cabin, WC and washing basin. Each carriage of the PLATINUM CATEGORY contains about 5 of these magnificent cabins.

Day 1

Beijing (Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square)

On arrival at Beijing you are transferred to check-in at the Capital Hotel Beijing. Start your once in a lifetime trip with a guided tour to the Beijing's fascinating Temple of Heaven and the famous Tiananmen Square. Following your day, spend a relaxed evening with drinks and dinner.

Day 2

Today, you journey to the Forbidden City, a place which for centuries has been closed to the public. Experience the mysterious and glorious temples and lose yourself in the grandeur of the long-forgotten Palaces.

In the evening, board the train to begin your adventure! Pull out from Beijing station in a modern Chinese train and watch as the city opens up to reveal rural life in China. Take in the scenery as locals work in the fields, donkey carts trot through dusty roads and the Gobi desert appears on the horizon. Journey on to Mongolia as these incredible sights continue.

Day 4

The Gobi Desert

Awake for breakfast, before arriving at the Chinese-Mongolian border. Here, you will change on to your unique, Private Train. Stop here briefly as immigration formalities take place on board before continuing to Erlian. Discover this border town's beautiful market filled with colourful goods before travelling on. Voyage through the vast Gobi Desert before emerging into the green hills of Mongolia.

Day 5

Ulan Bator

Awake to the sights and sounds of Ulan Bator, Mongolia's capital. Transfer into Bayangol Ulan Bator for the evening before heading out to this captivating city. Visit the ancient Choijin Lama temple, shop for local crafts and in the evening, enjoy a local Mongolian music performance.

The Bayangol Ulan Bator Hotel is a modern 12 story building set in landscaped gardens. The restaurant is one of the largest in Mongolia and offers traditional and Mongolian food. The Health Club offers massages, a gym and a sauna. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of Ulan Bator.

Day 6

Gandan Monastery and the Mongolian Alps

Following breakfast, visit the stunning Buddhist Gandan Monastery before embarking on an excursion to the area's beautiful mountains which boast incredible rock formations. En route, visit an open-air railroad museum. Enjoy a typical picnic lunch in a yurt before watching a traditional wrestling match and demonstration of Mongolian horsemanship. Sample some distinctive Mongolian dishes, such as lamb in milk, a culinary speciality or for those brave enough, kumys (fermented mare's milk) which is known as the beer of the nomads.

After this incredible day, return to the train as your journey continues onwards.

Day 7

Ulan Ude

Say goodbye to Mongolia as the train heads through the striking Selenga Valley and across the largest river of Mongolia. Cross the Mongolian/Russian border and watch as the train joins the focal route of the Transsiberian Railroad. Stop in the interesting border town of Ulan Ude and take a walk through the city streets.

Day 8

Lake Baikal

Today, you will discover the beauty of Lake Baikal. After breakfast, arrive at the old station which is located on the banks of the lake. Explore the wonderful scenery and capture its magnificence with two photo shoots. Have a swim in the lake or alternatively visit Baikal Village, a picturesque village located next to the waters.

Enjoy dinner on the shores of the incredible natural wonder before boarding the train and heading for Irkutsk.

Day 9

Irkutsk

Check into the centrally located Irkutsk Hotel in the morning. Luggage can be left safely onboard the train. Take a tour of the city which includes a spectacular drama theatre and a newly built statue of the Tsar. Following lunch, take a trip to an open-air museum with fascinating exhibitions of Siberian life. Following the city tour, take a drive to a local village an experience a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Baikal.

Day 10

Across Siberia

Journey through the mesmerising landscape of Eastern Siberia. Sit back and relax whilst shimmering crystal-clear rivers, lush green valleys and distant mountains pass by. Enjoy the entertaining lectures provided by your guides whilst aboard the train and become a true local by sampling local vodka and caviar. A real Russian welcome!

Day 11

Novosibirsk

Arise and enjoy the spectacular scenery before arriving into Novosibirsk, Siberia’s biggest city. Following a typical Russian greeting; which includes bread, salt and balalaika music, take a trip into the city. Discover the vibrant sights and sounds of the city's lively market before returning to the train.

Day 12

Ekaterinburg

Following a morning travelling by train, stop in Ekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural Mountains in mid afternoon. Lying on the border between Asia and Europe, Ekaterinburg is a fascinating destination. Enjoy a short exploration to see the cities most influential sights, including the Cathedral-on-the-blood, built in memorial of the catastrophic events surrounding the death of Romanovs. From here, your train will now continue on European ground.

Day 13

Kazan

Today you journey to Kazan, located on the banks of the Volga River and famous as the old Tartar capital. Learn the remarkable history with a guided tour of the city which includes the infamous Kremlin. Discover the accounts of the often violent relations between the Tartars, Cossacks and Russians.

Following your trip, enjoy a peaceful boat ride and lunch whilst floating along the Volga River. Back on board, sample the delights of the train's superb restaurant for dinner and chat to fellow passengers about your trip as you journey overnight for the last time.

Day 14

Moscow

Arise and arrive at Russia's richest and most illustrious city, Moscow. Check in at the Renaissance Moscow for a 1 night stay. Take a guided tour of the city, stopping firstly at the Kremlin. Explore its stunning cathedrals and beautiful interiors of this wondrous architectural structure. Take some free time to discover the city before taking a magical evening trip through the city. Admire the sights and sounds of the Red Square and travel on the subway which includes a visit to two wonderful old stations.

Moscow

Between Moscow and the Chinese-Mongolian border in Erlian (and vice versa) your Private Train offers five different compartment categories ranging from the budget category with shared facilities to the best possible comfort available on the Trans-Siberian route with private facilities. No matter which compartment type you choose, all of them are about twice as large as typical European sleeping car compartments.

Standard Cabin
In the ”STANDARD” CATEGORY (I), there are nine compartments per car, each for 3 or 4 guests. On both sides, left and right, there are two berths, one upon the other and each of them sized 70x190cm. In the middle, below the window, you will find a table. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of the car.

Standard Plus Cabin
In the STANDARD PLUS CATEGORY (II), there are 9 compartments per car. A compartment is shared by two guests. Berths are sized app. 70 x 190 cm and arranged facing each other. There is also a table under the window. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of this category’s cars. In every second car there is a shower compartment.

Nostalgic Comfort Cabin
The NOSTALGIC COMFORT CATEGORY (III) carriages are traditionally furnished with modern amenities. You’ll be travelling in an ambiance in which even former Soviet leaders would have felt at home – although with the comfort of the 21st century. Each of these rolling hotel rooms offers two large berths (app. 80 x 185 cm) and an armchair for an especially comfortable view of the changing landscapes. Two compartments share one bathroom, located in a small lavatory between every two compartments.

Bolshoi Cabin
The BOLSHOI CATEGORY (IV) is equipped with two beds, one of which measures 1,10 m x 1,90 m, even providing room for two people if required. Furthermore, the 5,57 m² large compartments offer a cosy seating bench, a commodious table and a wardrobe. The compartment’s exclusive en suite bathroom does not only contain a washing basin, WC and shower, but also enough storage space for your personal belongings. Each car of the Bolshoi category has only six compartments.

Bolshoi Platinum Cabin
The newly introduced BOLSHOI PLATINUM CATEGORY (V) features the highest possible comfort on the Trans-Siberian. Each compartment is 7,15 m² large and provided with full shower cabin, WC and washing basin. Each carriage of the PLATINUM CATEGORY contains about 5 of these magnificent cabins.

Day 1

Beijing (Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square)

On arrival at Beijing you are transferred to check-in at the Westin Beijing Hotel. Start your once in a lifetime trip with a guided tour to the Beijing's fascinating Temple of Heaven and the famous Tiananmen Square. Following your day, spend a relaxed evening with drinks and dinner.

The Westin Beijing Hotel is a modern hotel with two 26 storey towers. Each of the 486 luxurious bedrooms and suites has a Westin Heavenly Bed® and a rainforest shower. Relax in the spa, enjoy a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, or choose from one of the seven restaurants and bars for dining or drinks. Beijing (Great Wall)

Lunch and dinner is served in the Euro-Asian Kitchen restaurant, or Japanese specialities in the Sakura restaurant, or Mongolian meals in the Kharakhorum restaurant and bar. Day 6

Gandan Monastery and the Mongolian Alps

Following breakfast, visit the stunning Buddhist Gandan Monastery before embarking on an excursion to the area's beautiful mountains which boast incredible rock formations. En route, visit an open-air railroad museum. Enjoy a typical picnic lunch in a yurt before watching a traditional wrestling match and demonstration of Mongolian horsemanship. Sample some distinctive Mongolian dishes, such as lamb in milk, a culinary speciality or for those brave enough, kumys (fermented mare's milk) which is known as the beer of the nomads.

After this incredible day, return to the train as your journey continues onwards.

Day 7

Ulan Ude

Say goodbye to Mongolia as the train heads through the striking Selenga Valley and across the largest river of Mongolia. Cross the Mongolian/Russian border and watch as the train joins the focal route of the Transsiberian Railroad. Stop in the interesting border town of Ulan Ude and take a walk through the city streets.

Day 8

Lake Baikal

Today, you will discover the beauty of Lake Baikal. After breakfast, arrive at the old station which is located on the banks of the lake. Explore the wonderful scenery and capture its magnificence with two photo shoots. Have a swim in the lake or alternatively visit Baikal Village, a picturesque village located next to the waters.

Enjoy dinner on the shores of the incredible natural wonder before boarding the train and heading for Irkutsk.

Day 9

Irkutsk

Check into the centrally located Irkutsk Hotel in the morning. Luggage can be left safely onboard the train. Take a tour of the city which includes a spectacular drama theatre and a newly built statue of the Tsar. Following lunch, take a trip to an open-air museum with fascinating exhibitions of Siberian life. Following the city tour, take a drive to a local village an experience a boat ride on the beautiful Lake Baikal.

Day 10

Across Siberia

Journey through the mesmerising landscape of Eastern Siberia. Sit back and relax whilst shimmering crystal-clear rivers, lush green valleys and distant mountains pass by. Enjoy the entertaining lectures provided by your guides whilst aboard the train and become a true local by sampling local vodka and caviar. A real Russian welcome!

Day 11

Novosibirsk

Arise and enjoy the spectacular scenery before arriving into Novosibirsk, Siberia’s biggest city. Following a typical Russian greeting; which includes bread, salt and balalaika music, take a trip into the city. Discover the vibrant sights and sounds of the city's lively market before returning to the train.

Day 12

Ekaterinburg

Following a morning travelling by train, stop in Ekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural Mountains in mid afternoon. Lying on the border between Asia and Europe, Ekaterinburg is a fascinating destination. Enjoy a short exploration to see the cities most influential sights, including the Cathedral-on-the-blood, built in memorial of the catastrophic events surrounding the death of Romanovs. From here, your train will now continue on European ground.

Day 13

Kazan

Today you journey to Kazan, located on the banks of the Volga River and famous as the old Tartar capital. Learn the remarkable history with a guided tour of the city which includes the infamous Kremlin. Discover the accounts of the often violent relations between the Tartars, Cossacks and Russians.

Following your trip, enjoy a peaceful boat ride and lunch whilst floating along the Volga River. Back on board, sample the delights of the train's superb restaurant for dinner and chat to fellow passengers about your trip as you journey overnight for the last time.

Day 14

Moscow

Arise and arrive at Russia's richest and most illustrious city, Moscow. Check in at the Baltshug Kempinski for a 1 night stay. Take a guided tour of the city, stopping firstly at the Kremlin. Explore its stunning cathedrals and beautiful interiors of this wondrous architectural structure. Take some free time to discover the city before taking a magical evening trip through the city. Admire the sights and sounds of the Red Square and travel on the subway which includes a visit to two wonderful old stations.

The Baltschug Kempinski Hotel in Moscow is one of Moscow's top hotels. The hotel has 230 bedrooms, suites and studios, and upgraded bedrooms have views of the Kremlin, St. Basil's Cathedral and Red Square. Enjoy Russian, European and Mediterranean cuisine combined with panoramic views over the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral; or enjoy dinner at the Japanese sushi restaurant Shogun. Moscow

Following breakfast, take a brief tour of the highlights of Moscow - Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, Lomonossov University, the New Virgin Monastery and the dazzling St. Basil’s Cathedral. Stop by the notorious KGB headquarters and White House before heading back to the hotel.

The Russian capital Moscow has a rich sense of history, incredible architecture and wonderful museums and theatres. Stand in the huge Red Square and admire the famous Kremlin, visit the instantly recognisable St Basil's Cathedral with its colourful onion shaped domes, or enjoy a night out at the Bolshoi.

Between Moscow and the Chinese-Mongolian border in Erlian (and vice versa) your Private Train offers five different compartment categories ranging from the budget category with shared facilities to the best possible comfort available on the Trans-Siberian route with private facilities. No matter which compartment type you choose, all of them are about twice as large as typical European sleeping car compartments.

Standard Cabin
In the ”STANDARD” CATEGORY (I), there are nine compartments per car, each for 3 or 4 guests. On both sides, left and right, there are two berths, one upon the other and each of them sized 70x190cm. In the middle, below the window, you will find a table. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of the car.

Standard Plus Cabin
In the STANDARD PLUS CATEGORY (II), there are 9 compartments per car. A compartment is shared by two guests. Berths are sized app. 70 x 190 cm and arranged facing each other. There is also a table under the window. Combined toilet/lavatory compartments are located at each end of this category’s cars. In every second car there is a shower compartment.

Nostalgic Comfort Cabin
The NOSTALGIC COMFORT CATEGORY (III) carriages are traditionally furnished with modern amenities. You’ll be travelling in an ambiance in which even former Soviet leaders would have felt at home – although with the comfort of the 21st century. Each of these rolling hotel rooms offers two large berths (app. 80 x 185 cm) and an armchair for an especially comfortable view of the changing landscapes. Two compartments share one bathroom, located in a small lavatory between every two compartments.

Bolshoi Cabin
The BOLSHOI CATEGORY (IV) is equipped with two beds, one of which measures 1,10 m x 1,90 m, even providing room for two people if required. Furthermore, the 5,57 m² large compartments offer a cosy seating bench, a commodious table and a wardrobe. The compartment’s exclusive en suite bathroom does not only contain a washing basin, WC and shower, but also enough storage space for your personal belongings. Each car of the Bolshoi category has only six compartments.

Bolshoi Platinum Cabin
The newly introduced BOLSHOI PLATINUM CATEGORY (V) features the highest possible comfort on the Trans-Siberian. Each compartment is 7,15 m² large and provided with full shower cabin, WC and washing basin. Each carriage of the PLATINUM CATEGORY contains about 5 of these magnificent cabins.
