Fly with British Airways from London to Geneva, and then take the train directly from the airport to Montreux. Stay at the Helvétie Hotel , which is a short walk from the station.
Set on the shore of Lake Geneva, with the Jura mountains to the North, Montreux is a lovely resort town, boasting a world famous annual jazz festival and a history of famous residents including Noel Coward and Freddie Mercury. Enjoy an evening stroll along the beautiful lakefront promenade and dinner in one of the resort's great choice of restaurants.
After breakfast join the carriages of the Golden Pass train. There are two different types of carriages on this scenic journey, modern panoramic and vintage 1915 belle epoque.
Leaving Montreux, the train rises above Lake Geneva with magnificent views of the Swiss Riviera. At Jaman, the Golden Pass train plunges through a mountain tunnel, before heading for the resorts of Châteaux d’Oex and Gstaad. The Golden Pass Line reaches its highest point (1,274m) before arriving in Zweisimmen.
From Zweisimmen, the GoldenPass Line winds through the Simme Valley (home of the famous Swiss Simmental cows) before arriving into Interlaken, located between Lakes Thun and Brienz.
On arrival, check in for 2 nights at the Hotel du Nord.
Travel to Europe's highest altitude railway station on the Jungfrau mountain (3454 metres). This is a unique trip which takes you to Kleine Scheidegg before climbing to the station at Eigergletscher, well known for its mountain restaurant and Huskies.
After spectacular sightseeing through large observation windows hewn from solid Alpine rock, you arrive at the Jungfraujoch, where you have incredible views (on a clear day) to the Vosges Mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany. The Great Aletsch Glacier, at 22 km the longest ice-stream in the Alps, begins on the Jungfrau Mountain. Travel back from the Jungfrau for your second night at the Du Nord Hotel in Interlaken.
Depart Interlaken after breakfast and travel to Brig over the spectacular Lötschberg mountain via Kandersteg to arrive in Brig where Glacier Express departs.
Once in Brig you connect with the world famous Glacier Express and take a panoramic trip through the Swiss Alps from Brig to Chur. The journey takes approximately 5 hours and is probably the slowest express train in the world! Travel in comfort through the unspoilt natural beauty of mountain forests, peaceful Alpine meadows, rushing mountain streams and valleys.
On arrival in Chur check in to the Romantik Hotel Stern.
The oldest city in Switzerland, Chur, is situated in a deep valley formed by the Rhine, has a rich and powerful history and was founded by the Romans in 15BC.
After an early breakfast, depart from Chur on the Bernina Express to Tirano via St Moritz. The train crosses the Alps and offers breathtaking views from the panoramic carriages. Ride over spectacular viaducts, through sheer rock gorges and switch-back tunnels, alongside mountain streams and glaciers.
Be sure not to miss the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which will appear on your right just before St Moritz.
After some time in Tirano or Poschiavo for lunch, return to Chur for your second night.
Take the train from Chur to Zurich where you fly with British Airways to London.

Chur is one of the oldest cities in Switzerland, dating back more than five thousand years. It is situated in a deep valley and is almost entirely surrounded by Alpine peaks. Chur has an attractive Old Town and is home to numerous buildings and other monuments that are now listed as Swiss Heritage Sites of National Significance. Don’t miss a visit to the Gothic cathedral or the Graubünden Museum of History.
