On arrival in Beijing you will be met and transferred to the 5* The Regent Hotel for a 3 night stay. Enjoy a private welcome reception followed by dinner in a local restaurant. Today you are given the opportunity to take part in a number of different tours. Visit Tiananmen Square or explore this magnificently restored Forbidden City. Alternatively, take a tour of Beijing’s modern architecture with sights including the Olympic Village, National Centre for Performing Arts, and the National Museum.
Today you get to visit the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China. Visit Badaling where you are given the opportunity to walk along a section of the wall. Return to Beijing in the evening where you are taken for dinner at a famous Peking Duck restaurant.
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and spend the morning at leisure in Beijing. You will then be transferred to Beijing West railway station to board the Shangri-La Express. Lunch is served onboard. Spend the afternoon settling into your cabin and have a drink in the bar before dinner is served.
The train arrives into the ancient city of Xi'an during the morning. You are then taken on a tour which takes in the highlights of the city including the Great Mosque, the 14 km city walls and Big Wild Goose Pagoda. This afternoon is dedicated to visiting the world famous Terracotta Warriors. The 6,000 Terracotta figures are one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. Return back to the city for dinner in the early evening before enjoying a Tang Dynasty show.
Enjoy breakfast on the train before arriving into Lanzhou. Lanzhou is an important city along the Silk Route due to its crossing point of the Yellow River. Spend the morning exploring the Gansu Provincial Museum before departing in the late afternoon. Dinner is served onboard in the evening.
Today is spent in the small oasis city of Dunhuang. Visit the Magao Thousand Buddha Cave Complex, which contains almost 500 grottoes, carved between 700 and 1,700 years ago. Lunch is served whilst you are given a local folk performance. In the afternoon take a camel ride to Crescent Lake, one of the natural wonders of the Gobi Desert.
Arrive into Turpan during the morning. Admire the views of the Flaming Mountains which provide the backdrop to this city. In the afternoon you are driven to Urumchi which is situated in a green oasis. Urumchi is the largest city in the western half of China and you are taken on a city tour which includes a visit to the Mummies Exhibition in the Provincial Museum.
You bid the Shangri-La Express a final farewell as you arrive at the border of Kazakhstan. The adventure continues as you board the awaiting Golden Eagle private train and spend the rest of the day settling in to your new cabins.
Just before lunch the train arrives at Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. Almaty is hosting the 2011 Asian Winter Games and is set in a valley in the foothills of the Tien Shen Mountains. Lunch is served in a traditional Kazak ‘yurt’. Return to the Golden Eagle for dinner and spend the rest of the evening relaxing onboard.
Spend the morning relaxing onboard before arriving in the capital city of Uzbekistan. Spend the afternoon touring before re-boarding the train for lunch. You are then given the opportunity to visit many of the sights which have been rebuilt since the devastating earthquake in 1966. Return to the train for dinner as the Golden Eagle departs for Samarkand.
Today is spent in what is considered to be the jewel of the Islamic world, Samarkand. The cities admirers include Marco Polo and Alexander the Great. The city was founded in the 6th century BC and is often known as “the Paris of the Muslim World” and “Rome of the East”. Spend the day visiting the many sights of this city including the Bibi Kharum Mosque and the Ulag Beg observatory. Dinner is served close to the awe-inspiring Registan Square before you return to the Golden Eagle for a late evening departure.
The train arrives in Uzbekistan’s largest oasis city, the splendid Bukhara. UNESCO funded the renovation of much of the city for its 2,500th anniversary in 1999. You are taken on a tour of the city. One of the highlights of the tour is the visit to The Ark, which is the fortified residence of the Emirs of Bukhara. Lunch is served within one of the city’s many medressehs (beautifully-tiled Islamic schools). In the late afternoon you then depart the city and visit the Emir’s Palace of the Moon and Stars.
The train arrives into Mary in the early morning and you are transferred by bus to the ancient city of Merv. The city was once an important stop on the Silk Road before the Emir of Bukhara destroyed the dam which the population depended upon for water. You are taken on a city tour which includes a visit to at least one of the five walled cities contained within the 50-square mile area. Return to the train for dinner.
The Golden Eagle arrives into the capital city of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat. The city is situated between the Kopet Dag mountain range and the Kara Kum Desert and is known as being the ‘Las Vegas of the Kara Kum’. Ashgabat is a modern city in the desert which is a monument to the recently deceased President Sapamurat Turkmenbashi.
The Golden Eagle crosses into Uzbekistan in the afternoon as you arrive in Urgench before transferring to Khiva. Khiva is a 2,500-year old city and was once one of the most important trading centres at the crossroads of the routes between Mongolia, Russia, China and Persia. Admire the fabulous buildings, bazaars, mosques, and minarets that are dotted within the walls of the city. Lunch and dinner are served on board the Golden Eagle.

The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Silver sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 60 sq ft. Silver Class cabins a private en-suite bathroom with a ‘wet-room’ style shower, a toilet, and all of the amenities that are provided in a New Heritage Class cabin. Silver Class cabins sleep 2 in a lower small double bed (4ft) or bunk style.
Gold Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Gold sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 77 sq ft. Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.
Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. Other amenities include individual air-conditioning, a DVD/CD player with LCD screen, and two large picture windows. Guests staying in an Imperial Suites will also benefit from a dedicated butler service, complimentary drinks from the premium bar list, the option of in-cabin dining, free laundry service and room upgrades at the featured hotels.

One of the highlights of the tour is the visit to The Ark, which is the fortified residence of the Emirs of Bukhara. The train arrives into Mary in the early morning and you are transferred by bus to the ancient city of Merv. The city was once an important stop on the Silk Road before the Emir of Bukhara destroyed the dam which the population depended upon for water. You are taken on a city tour which includes a visit to at least one of the five walled cities contained within the 50-square mile area. Return to the train for dinner.
The Golden Eagle arrives into the capital city of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat. The city is situated between the Kopet Dag mountain range and the Kara Kum Desert and is known as being the ‘Las Vegas of the Kara Kum’. Ashgabat is a modern city in the desert which is a monument to the recently deceased President Sapamurat Turkmenbashi.
The Golden Eagle crosses into Uzbekistan in the afternoon as you arrive in Urgench before transferring to Khiva. Khiva is a 2,500-year old city and was once one of the most important trading centres at the crossroads of the routes between Mongolia, Russia, China and Persia. Admire the fabulous buildings, bazaars, mosques, and minarets that are dotted within the walls of the city. Lunch and dinner are served on board the Golden Eagle.

After travelling almost 7,000 miles you arrive into Moscow in the late afternoon. On arrival in Moscow you are transferred to the 5* Marriott Royal Aurora Moscow for a 2 night stay.

Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.
Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. Other amenities include individual air-conditioning, a DVD/CD player with LCD screen, and two large picture windows. On arrival in Beijing you will be met and transferred to the 5* The Regent Hotel for a 3 night stay. Enjoy a private welcome reception followed by dinner in a local restaurant. Today you are given the opportunity to take part in a number of different tours. Visit Tiananmen Square or explore this magnificently restored Forbidden City. Alternatively, take a tour of Beijing’s modern architecture with sights including the Olympic Village, National Centre for Performing Arts, and the National Museum.
Today you get to visit the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China. Visit Badaling where you are given the opportunity to walk along a section of the wall. Return to Beijing in the evening where you are taken for dinner at a famous Peking Duck restaurant.
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel and spend the morning at leisure in Beijing. You will then be transferred to Beijing West railway station to board the Shangri-La Express. Lunch is served onboard. Spend the afternoon settling into your cabin and have a drink in the bar before dinner is served.
The train arrives into the ancient city of Xi'an during the morning. You are then taken on a tour which takes in the highlights of the city including the Great Mosque, the 14 km city walls and Big Wild Goose Pagoda. This afternoon is dedicated to visiting the world famous Terracotta Warriors. The 6,000 Terracotta figures are one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century. Return back to the city for dinner in the early evening before enjoying a Tang Dynasty show.
Enjoy breakfast on the train before arriving into Lanzhou. Lanzhou is an important city along the Silk Route due to its crossing point of the Yellow River. Spend the morning exploring the Gansu Provincial Museum before departing in the late afternoon. Dinner is served onboard in the evening.
Today is spent in the small oasis city of Dunhuang. Visit the Magao Thousand Buddha Cave Complex, which contains almost 500 grottoes, carved between 700 and 1,700 years ago. Lunch is served whilst you are given a local folk performance. In the afternoon take a camel ride to Crescent Lake, one of the natural wonders of the Gobi Desert.
Arrive into Turpan during the morning. Admire the views of the Flaming Mountains which provide the backdrop to this city. In the afternoon you are driven to Urumchi which is situated in a green oasis. Urumchi is the largest city in the western half of China and you are taken on a city tour which includes a visit to the Mummies Exhibition in the Provincial Museum.
You bid the Shangri-La Express a final farewell as you arrive at the border of Kazakhstan. The adventure continues as you board the awaiting Golden Eagle private train and spend the rest of the day settling in to your new cabins.
Just before lunch the train arrives at Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. Almaty is hosting the 2011 Asian Winter Games and is set in a valley in the foothills of the Tien Shen Mountains. Lunch is served in a traditional Kazak ‘yurt’. Return to the Golden Eagle for dinner and spend the rest of the evening relaxing onboard.

You are then given the opportunity to visit many of the sights which have been rebuilt since the devastating earthquake in 1966. The city was founded in the 6th century BC and is often known as “the Paris of the Muslim World” and “Rome of the East”. Dinner is served close to the awe-inspiring Registan Square before you return to the Golden Eagle for a late evening departure.

A particular delight of the Golden Eagle are the two restaurant cars, where the chefs serve meals using (wherever possible) local ingredients. Whether it be world-renowned "Borsch" or Omul - a fish unique to Lake Baikal, meals are complemented by wines from around the world, as well as - naturally - vodka.
Yet the social heart of the train is of course the bar car, a great place to relax and settle into the unhurried pace of life on board. Unwind in comfortable surroundings, watch the world go by, and meet your fellow passengers.
The Shangri-La Express transports you through China to Beijing, and offers modern comfort even in the remotest places.
The train's twin berth cabins are comfortably furnished and includes "Pullman" table and armchair alongside a large picture window. A state of the art shower car complements the two washrooms/WCs in every sleeping carriage.
Meals are served in the spacious restaurant car, where dedicated chefs serve a Western breakfast, followed by a wide range of authentic Chinese specialities at lunch and dinner, using only the finest local ingredients.
Equally special is the unique ambience of the piano bar car, which stays open until the last person leaves. The bar is the perfect place to get to know your fellow passengers or take in the scenery.
Silver Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Silver sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 60 sq ft. Silver Class cabins a private en-suite bathroom with a ‘wet-room’ style shower, a toilet, and all of the amenities that are provided in a New Heritage Class cabin. Silver Class cabins sleep 2 in a lower small double bed (4ft) or bunk style.
Gold Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Gold sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 77 sq ft. Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.
Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. Other amenities include individual air-conditioning, a DVD/CD player with LCD screen, and two large picture windows. Guests staying in an Imperial Suites will also benefit from a dedicated butler service, complimentary drinks from the premium bar list, the option of in-cabin dining, free laundry service and room upgrades at the featured hotels.
The Regent Hotel in Beijing is a luxury hotel with 500 contemporary bedrooms and suites. Relax in the hotel's indoor pool and "Serenity Spa", or enjoy dinner and a drink at one the hotel's 5 restaurants. The hotel is in the centre of Beijing, walking distance from Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

The Marriott Royal Aurora Hotel in Moscow is a luxury hotel, with contemporary and spacious bedrooms and suites. Each bedroom includes its own personal butler service. Relax with dinner in the international restaurant Aurora, or at the steakhouse restaurant, the Polo Club. The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. The hotel is in the centre of Moscow, within walking distance of the world-renowned Red Square and Bolshoi Theatre.
