Itinerary - 4 Night Luxury Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Salzburg

Fly with British Airways from London to Salzburg in Euro Traveller Class.

Once in Salzburg check in at the luxurious Sacher Hotel Salzburg for your 3 night stay.

The Sacher Hotel in Salzburg is a historic hotel and sister to the famous Sacher Hotel in Vienna. The hotel has 112 luxurious bedrooms and suites, and each bedroom is individually decorated. There are several restaurants and bars, a spa with a gym and a sauna. The hotel situated on the bank of the Salzach River and has views over the old town area, as well as the Hohensalzburg Fortress.

Days 2 and 3

Salzburg

Spend two full days exploring one of the most fascinating cities in Europe

Straddling the banks of the Salzach river and surrounded by green hills on one side and the Alps on the other, Salzburg is picture perfect. The baroque old town is a UNESCO world heritage site with its colourful old buildings and winding streets leading up the dominating Festung Hohensalzburg, one of the largest medieval castles in Europe.

A visit to Salzburg wouldn’t be complete without going to the birth place of the world's most famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The house is now a museum dedicated to Mozart where you can look at various fascinating exhibits, including his musical instruments and correspondence from the Mozart family.

Day 4

Boarding the Venice Simplon Orient Express

After another morning in Salzburg, depart in first class on the service for Innsbruck. Once in Innsbruck board the gleaming carriages of the Venice Simplon Orient Express and settle back into your private cabin. A leisurely four course dinner will be served, prepared on board by the train's skilled French chefs. Enjoy a brandy or liqueur with convivial company in the Bar Car before retiring for the night.

Day 5

Venice Simplon Orient Express to London

The next morning continental breakfast is brought to you by your steward. Later, enjoy a delicious brunch in the restaurant car as you travel on towards the French coast.

After the short Channel crossing board the cream and umber carriages of the British Pullman for the journey to London. A sophisticated High Tea with a glass of champagne is served at your table while you watch the gentle scenery of Kent pass by. All too soon, you are drawing into London Victoria station.

Salzburg is a beautiful city close to the Austrian Alps, famous for its huge medieval castle, its UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town and its associations with Mozart, who was born here. Stroll along the banks of the Salzach River, get great views from the walls of the Festung Hohensalzburg, visit Mozart’s birthplace(now a museum dedicated to his life and work) or, if it’s your thing, enjoy a full tour of all the sights featured in the famous musical,The Sound of Music.

Cabins
Travelling in private cabins impeccably restored to their former glory, passengers are assured of a truly unique travel experience complemented by the very best personal service.
Each cabin has an original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water, and at night-time becomes a comfortable bedroom, with soft towels and crisp linen. Double Cabins feature a single cabin room, whilst the Cabin Suites feature the ultimate luxury of two inter-connecting cabins. Toilet facilities are available in each carriage, luxuriously appointed and maintained to the highest standards by our stewards.

Dining
All dishes are freshly prepared on the train by skilled French chefs. Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by the Italian waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Lalique, Etoile du Nord or Chinoise. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served to passengers in the comfort of the train's luxury cabins. Table d'hôte meals are included in the fare, while an à la carte menu and 24-hour compartment service is available additionally. The Maitre D' will come to your cabin to take your lunch and dinner reservations in advance of your meal.
