Itinerary - 9 Night Holiday by Rail

Days 1 and 2

Vancouver

On arrival in Vancouver, check in for a 2 night stay at the Delta Suites Vancouver.

Vancouver occupies a great location on the Canadian Pacific Coast with the forested Coastal Mountain range as a magnificent backdrop. Learn more about the history of British Columbia at the Museum of Anthropology. Shop in the buzzing Granville Island Public Market. Stroll along the Seawall Promenade hugging Stanley Park's shoreline or head to Prospect Point for stunning views of the city skyline. During the summer months you can even relax on the beach.

Day 3

Kamloops

Board the Rocky Mountaineer train in Vancouver for breakfast on board as the train begins its journey through the lush fields of the Fraser River Valley, past the majestic Coastal Mountains and then through the dramatic Fraser Canyon. Travel along the banks of the Thompson River through some lovely scenery before arriving in Kamloops.

On arrival check in for an overnight stay in Kamloops.

Why not explore the town with a Heritage Homes walking tour before enjoying dinner at one of the many restaurant choices along Victoria Street.

Days 4 and 5

Jasper

Reboard the Rocky Mountaineer for breakfast and rejoin the banks of the Thompson River as you travel across stretches of plateau towards the Monashee Mountains. Highlights of the area include the Pyramid Falls and the glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. The train passes Mount Robson, which at 3954 metres above sea level is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies Lunch is served on board before arriving into Jasper.

Check in for 2 nights at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

You have a free day to explore Jasper and the surrounding countryside. On your second night, enjoy an evening wildlife tour. Take your camera as there will be plenty of photo opportunities at destinations such as the Maligne Valley and the Pyramid Bench beaver pond.

Day 6

Lake Louise

Board a coach which travels along the scenic Icelands Parkway highway. The coach stops for a visit of the Columbia Icefield, and you have time for an Ice Explorer ride on the Athabasca Glacier. The coach also stops at Bow and Peyto Lakes, the Crowfoot Glacier and Athabasca Falls. Along the highway look out for moose, sheep and even the occasional bear!

On arrival in Lake Louise, check in for your overnight stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. The Fairmont Chateau, located on the shores of Lake Louise is a luxury hotel with spacious bedrooms. The hotel offers several different restaurants for lunch or dinner, and don't miss afternoon tea in the lounge overlooking Lake Louise. Relax in the spa, health centre or swimming pool.

Days 7 and 8

Banff

You leave Lake Louise on board the coach which drives through the stunning scenery of the Bow Valley before arriving into Banff.

Check in for a 2 night stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel.

Nestled in the Alberta Rockies, Banff is a small, walkable town with a huge mountain backdrop. Walk up to Sulphur Mountain for spectacular views before taking the Banff Gondola back into town. Indulge in a hot spa at the historical Banff Upper Hot Springs or learn more about the area with a visit to the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.

Day 9

Calgary

Enjoy a morning tour of Banff and the surrounding area. Your tour includes a visit to the Hoodoos (rocks shaped by the wind), Surprise Corner, and Tunnel Mountain Drive which has stunning views over the Bow Valley.

The coach leaves Banff just after midday and travels along the Trans Canada Highway out of the Rocky Mountains and into the Great Central Plains towards Calgary. These plains extend eastwards for 2000 kilometres and stretch as far south as Mexico.

On arrival in Calgary, check in for an overnight stay at the Delta Bow Valley Hotel.

Day 10

Calgary to London

Depart Calgary for your onward journey.

Stunning situated between a forested National Park and the Pacific coast, Vancouver is an historic seaport in British Columbia. Visit the original settlement of Gastown for shops and bars or head to the Fort Langley National Historical Site, a fortified trading post since 1827, for a history of the district. Before you leave, make sure you cross one of the world’s longest and highest suspension bridges over the Capilano Canyon and take a walk around Stanley Park’s beautiful Seawall Promenade.

Kamloops

Kamloops is in British Columbia and is situated on the Thomson River, and beside Kamloops Lake. During the winter enjoy skiing, snowboarding or snowmobiling, during summer visit the BC Wildlife Park or explore the town on the Heritage Homes Walking Tour.

Jasper

Jasper

Jasper is located in the stunning surroundings of the Canadian Rockies, in Jasper National Park. The town is an ideal base to explore the area or try your hand at some outdoor activities such as white water rafting. Why not take a trip to the famous Icefields Parkway or enjoy a dip at the Miette Hot Springs? You can also head up into the mountains with a journey on the Jasper Tramway, a cable car that travels up Whistler’s Mountain to 2277 metres above sea level.

Named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, one of Queen Victoria's daughters; beautiful Lake Louise is a relaxing area to spend a couple of days. Look out across the lake's famous emerald green waters to the Victoria Glacier. Hike around the lake or visit nearby Moraine Lake.

Banff

Banff

Banff is set deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and inside the scenic Banff National Park. Hike through the National Park, relax in Banff's natural hot springs, or visit the Whyte Museum for Rockies art and literature.

Calgary

Calgary

Calgary is a vibrant city, located in the Canadian province of Alberta. The first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympic Games, Calgary is also a haven for outdoor activities. Learn the history of the city with a visit to the Calgary Fort or the Glenbow Museum (the largest museum in Western Canada) or get amazing panoramic views from the Calgary Tower. For something different you can catch the Calgary Flames playing ice hockey at the Scotiabank Saddledome or chill out on Prince’s Island Park.
