Itinerary - 6 Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

Cologne

Travel on Eurostar from London to Brussels (approximately 1 hour 51 minutes). On arrival in Brussels transfer onto the High Speed train to Cologne, which takes 1 hour 47 minutes. On arrival in Cologne check in at the Art'Otel Cologne for an overnight stay.

Visit Cologne's Chocolate Museum for a tasting, relax in a traditional bar and sample the local specialty beer kolsch, then head up to the top of the Dom for fabulous views over the city.

Days 2 and 3

Baden-Baden

After breakfast take the train through stunning German countryside to Baden-Baden, the journey takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. You travel along the Rhine Valley, past hilltop castles, and vineyards, and from Cologne to Baden-Baden you enter the Black Forest near Baden-Baden and see it stretching before you, with mountains up to 1500m and thickly forested landscapes. On arrival in Baden-Baden check in at the Merkur Baden-Baden for a 2 night stay.

Baden-Baden is an elegant spa town, famous for its hot spring waters. Relax with a soak in the Caracalla Spa, taste the waters at the Trinkhalle, test your luck at the casino, or head out to Altes Schloss for incredible views of the Rhine Valley, the Black Forest and Baden-Baden.

Days 4 and 5

Freiburg

After breakfast take the train from Baden-Baden to Freiburg, which takes around 1 hour. The Black Forest stretches for two hundred kilometres past Freiburg to the Swiss border, and it's a haven for wildlife and outdoor activities. Famed for its Gateau, the Black Forest is a lush and green landscape spotted with flower-filled meadows, beautiful medieval villages and towns and sparkling clear streams.

On arrival in Freiburg, check in for your 2 night stay at the Best Western Premier Hotel Victoria Freiburg.

Day 6

Lake Titisee

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before taking a day trip by train to Lake Titisee. The journey time is less than 40 minutes and offers scenic views of the Black Forest.

Take a boat trip around Lake Titisee or why not travel on the Zäpfle-Bähnle scenic railway around the lake to marvel at the incredible views? Shop for souvenirs along Seestrasse which is widely regarded as the one of the best shopping streets in the southern Black Forest or simply relax in a café and admire the crystal clear waters of this famous lake.

Return to Freiburg by train in the evening for a final night at the Best Western Premier Hotel Victoria Freiburg.

Day 7

Freiburg to London

After breakfast travel along the Rhine Valley from Freiburg to Cologne before transferring onto a train to Brussels. Once in Brussels transfer onto the Eurostar to London.

There is a lot to see and do in this famous Rhineland city. Cologne Cathedral dominates the skyline and is a good place to start your exploration as it's right outside the station! Admire the imposing Gothic architecture of this huge monument and climb up the South tower for spectacular views. Visit the Old Town for some retail therapy and a glass of local beer, Kolsch. And don't miss a trip to the Chocolate Museum along the Rhine.

Freiburg

Come to Freiburg for fabulous architecture, good shopping and some lovely beer gardens in stunning natural surroundings. Take the longest cable car in Germany up to the peak of the Schauinsland in the Black Forest. Explore the wonderful red sandstone architecture on and around the Münsterplatz and watch out for the little Bächle running through the streets – if you fall in one, it’s said that you will marry a Freiburger!
