Itinerary - 7 Night Luxury Holiday by Rail - Deluxe Cabin

Day 1

London to Delhi and Board train

Fly from London to Delhi with British Airways and transfer to Safdarjung Railway station. Board the sumptuous Palace on Wheels luxury train in the mid afternoon and settle into your private compartment. Your luggage is taken to your respective saloons and you are greeted with a traditional garland and glass of wine.

Meet with your fellow passengers, explore your new home and settle down with a drink in the bar before a lavish dinner is served in the Maharaja and Mararani restaurants.

Day 2

Arrive Jaipur

Arrive in Jaipur, known as the "Pink City" and capital of the semi-desert region of Rajhastan. Discover the incredible Hawa Mahal Palace followed by the Jantar Mantar-Astronomical Observatory, now classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend your free time shopping for unique handicrafts including wonderful carvings, semi-precious gems and blue pottery. Jaipur is also renowned for its incredible hand block textile printing.

Stop for lunch at Jaipur's most celebrated sight, the Amber Fort. Enjoy an elephant ride before exploring the Fort's wondrous fusion of architectural styles combining Rajput and Mugal. Take a walk through the Jai Mandir Hall, adorned with glass panels lining the ceiling.

In the evening, travel to a 5* hotel for a delicious dinner before returning to the Palace on Wheels.

Day 3

Sawai Madhopur Tiger Reserve

Arrive in Sawai Madhopur, home to the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve and a haven of natural, historical beauty. The Ranthambhore Fort, which is a thousand years old, stands tall above the reserve and contains cenotaphs, tombs and stunning summer palaces. The unique flora and fauna can be seen across azure lakes and majestic forests.

Spotting a tiger in this dynamic environment is tough, however the numerous animals within the Reserve will ensure an entertaining day. Indian Gazelle, Jackal, Wild Boar and Sloth bears are just a few of the endless species that you might see here.

Enjoy lunch on board as the train twists and turns through Chittorgarh's lush green fields. Visit Chittorgarh's fort, considered the largest in India and built between the 5th and 8th century. Experience an exceptional light and sound show in this symbolic location before enjoying dinner at the Panna hotel and retiring to bed back onboard the train.

Day 4

Arrive Udaipur

Arrive early morning to the capital of the Sirodia Maharanas, Udaipur. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board before visiting the city. Admire the stunning city palaces including the seemingly floating Irland Palace, surrounded by the pretty Lake Pichola and soaring mountains.

Sample traditional delights for lunch within an open-air restaurant featuring fantastic views across the Lake and Jagmandir.

In the afternoon enjoy a trip to Udaipur's Crystal Gallery before travelling back to the Palace on Wheels.

Day 5

Arrive Jaisalmer

The Golden City of Rajasthan awaits today with a early arrival to Jaisalmer. Founded in 1156AD, Jaisalmer has an ancient history as a central trading centre at the heart of the route between Persia, Africa and the West. Study the impressive Sonar Quila Fort and the Havelie Mansions incorporating traditional décor and ancient architecture.

Shop for goods and enjoy typical Rajasthani fare at the Moomal Hotel. In the evening, enjoy the striking sunset with a camel ride across the rolling sand dunes and a wonderful campfire dinner.

Day 6

Arrive Jodhpur

On arrival in Jodhpur, visit the city's mighty hilltop fort (The Mehrangarh Fort) built in 1459 and standing 120 metres high. This commanding structure includes intricate sculptures, beautiful Rajput paintings and wonderful stone carvings. Lunch at the gorgeous Bhawan Palace before visiting the Umaid Bhawan Palace.

This palace holds huge significance and is arguably the world's finest and largest palace. Built by an Edwardian architect, the palace has 347 rooms with incredible décor and a central dome which is a staggering 110 feet high.

After dinner at a 5* star hotel, return back to the train for a night cap in the bar before retiring to your suite.

Day 7

Arrive Bharatpur Royal Kingdom and Agra

Today, the Royal Kingdom of Bharatpur awaits. Ruled by the Jats, the Kingdom's exploits are legendary and the Iron Fort is a historical symbol, built with bastions of mud which allowed cannon shells to be swallowed without any effect.

Enjoy breakfast at the Keoladeo Ghana National Park where one of the finest bird sanctuaries has been developed. Over 300 species from all over the world live here.

From Bharatpur, travel to Agra for your final, and most significant visit to the Taj Mahal. Built in the memory of Shah Jahan's beloved Empress, this beautiful gesture of love is a stunning example of marble architecture. Enjoy a marvellous lunch in the Palace Hotel before ending your day with a fantastic sound and light show.

Day 8

Arrive Delhi

Awake to the sights and sounds of Delhi, before enjoying a final breakfast and bidding your fellow passengers goodbye. Transfer to the airport with wonderful memories of your journey and return back to London with British Airways.
