Fly from London Heathrow with BA to Delhi. In the evening, meet at Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station to complete your registration and then board the gleaming carriages of the Maharajas’ Express. After settling into to your luxurious presidential suite, enjoy a welcome drink as you pull out of the station and begin your journey.

Arrive this morning into Jaipur, India’s ‘Pink City’ and disembark for your morning sightseeing tours. Visit the remarkable City Palace Museum, offering a huge collection of rugs, photographs, royal costumes, textiles and miniature paintings from the Rajput and Mughal eras. Then continue on to Jantar Mantar, the world’s largest stone astronomical observatory and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After lunch back onboard the train, enjoy some retail therapy, shopping for jewellery, textiles and traditional blue pottery in Jaipur’s bazaars.
In the evening, you’ll be welcomed with a fanfare of Indian drums into an exciting Elephant Polo match! Take part or just sit back and enjoy the spectacle of this enthralling exhibition match before finishing your day with a meal and sparkling wine at the Palace Hotel.
After breakfast this morning, you have the chance to visit the famous 11th century Amber Fort which is spectacularly situated on a ridge overlooking Jaipur, surrounded by fortified battlements. Enjoy a tour of the royal apartments before continuing on to the Anokhi Textile Museum, next to the fort, where you can experience first hand the lengthy and exhausting process of hand-block printing.
Return to the Maharajas’ Express for lunch before taking part in an optional tour. You can choose to take an excursion to Nahargarh Biological Park/ Elephant Rehabilitation Centre, located just beyond Jaipur’s city limits. Spread over 7.2 square kilometres, the park offers a refuge for endangered species of flora and fauna, including Asiatic lions, leopards, tigers, Indian gazelle and wild boar as well as a variety of birds. Alternatively you can opt for a relaxing afternoon in a palace hotel spa.
Return to the train for dinner as you continue your journey towards Kota.
This morning, after breakfast onboard, you will arrive into the historical city of Kota. Disembark for a river cruise on the River Chambal, home to a huge array of fascinating wildlife including Gangetic dolphins, smooth coated otters, hyenas and ghariyal (Indian crocodile) as well as over three hundred species of birds.
After this exciting cruise, return to the train for a magnificent lunch before continuing on to the Maharao Madho Singh Museum. This museum, housed in an old fort, features a collection of Rajput miniature paintings of the Kota school, amongst other fascinating artifacts. From here, take a tour of the 13th century Garh Palace with its impressive façade and grand palaces.
Dinner this evening will be at the Durbar Mahal, where you will be welcomed like royalty and treated to the hospitality that Rajasthan has been famous for throughout history. Enjoy a royal banquet with cocktails before returning to the train.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning and then spend a relaxed morning onboard, or disembark for an optional excursion to the cotton-silk weavers’ colonies at Kaithoon where you can watch the process of hand weaving cotton and silk fabric with real gold or silver wire.
After lunch back onboard the Maharajas’ Express, arrive into Sawai Madhopur station and disembark for an exciting safari around the famous Ranthambore National Park. The park is set in nearly 400 square kilometres of deciduous forest and offers sightings of species including sloth bear, sambar, hyena, jackal, leopard and occasionally an elusive tiger.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is constructed entirely from white marble and was built as a mausoleum by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his favourite queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Enjoy a full tour before returning for dinner aboard the Maharajas’ Express.
This morning’s champagne breakfast will be taken at Taj Khema, a tableland from where you can watch the sun rise over the majestic Taj Mahal.
Return to the train for a relaxed morning onboard or take part in one of a number of optional activities. Either take an excursion to Fatehpur Skri, a deserted red sandstone city outside Agra, built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. Alternatively, visit Itmad-ud-Daulah (sometimes referred to as ‘Baby Taj’), a 17th century mausoleum built by Empress Nur Jahan in memory of her father. Or, you can choose to enjoy the spa facilities at a local hotel.
After lunch back onboard, take a guided tour of the Agra Fort, built in the late 1560s by Emperor Akbar as the seat of the Mughal Empire and a wonderful example of Mughal architecture.
