Berlin to Moscow

Enjoy another full day in Berlin before catching your sleeper service to Moscow.

Berlin has a mind-boggling choice of museums encompassing history, culture and art. The Museum Island has possibly the best selection with the Pergamon-Museum one of the largest. This contains a huge collection of Greek and Roman antiquities. Elsewhere, the Checkpoint-Charlie Museum gives an introduction into the history of the Wall and the Siegessäule has a small exhibition at the top as well as fantastic city views.

After dinner in the evening, head to Berlin Hauptbahnhof for your sleeper service to Moscow. Settle into your private two berth compartment as the train heads eastwards towards Poland.

Day 3

Moscow

Spend a full day on the train today, relaxing in your private compartment. This morning you will arrive at the Belarus border where visas and passports are checked and the train's 'bogies' or wheels are changed from the standard Western European gauge to the Russian gauge. Once you're on you way again, the train heads through Minsk before crossing the Russian border and arriving into Moscow late in the evening.

You will be met at Moscow's Belorussky station and transferred to the Marriott Royal Aurora Moscow for an overnight stay.

Day 4

Moscow

After breakfast this morning, enjoy a city tour of Moscow, principally focussing on Red Square, an iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might. Here you will see an eclectic mix of fascinating architecture, such as the ornate and colourful St Basil’s Cathedral with its magnificent onion-domed spires, the grandeur of the Kremlin and the sombre and evocative tomb containing Lenin’s embalmed body.

In the early afternoon, enjoy a Champagne reception on the platform before boarding the luxurious Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express which will be your home for next twelve days. After settling into your modern, stylish Silver class cabin, enjoy dinner in one of the beautifully designed restaurant cars as your rail adventure begins.

Kazan

Arrive into the historic city of Kazan this morning. Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan, located on the River Volga. Enjoy a city tour including cultural highlights such as the famous UNESCO Heritage listed Kremlin-Fortress with its stunning onion-domed cathedral and mosque. Return to the train for a relaxing dinner onboard before either retiring to your private cabin or joining other guests in the bar car for drinks with new friends.

Day 6

Yekaterinburg

The Golden Eagle crosses the continental divide between Europe and Asia this morning before arriving into Yekaterinburg, the capital of the Urals which was founded by Peter the Great in 1723. Explore this fascinating city with its European and Asian architectural influences on a city tour. The highlight of the tour is a poignant visit to the site, now a memorial church, where the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas Romanov and his family were executed.

Day 7

Novosibirsk

Novosibirsk is a modern ‘Soviet’ city where the arts, literature and science dominate. Enjoy a city tour here taking in the major sights including the Opera House, the largest opera house in the world and an architectural masterpiece, housing two permanent opera and ballet companies. In front of the Opera House there’s the opportunity to have your photograph taken next to the imposing statue of Lenin.

Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world, containing twenty percent of the world’s fresh water. Some of the flora and fauna here is unique to this area including omul, a fish which will be served in the dining car during some of your meals. Travel by Eurostar from London to Brussels Midi, where you connect onto the service to Berlin via Cologne. On arrival in Berlin, check in for an overnight stay at the Park Plaza Wallstreet Berlin.

Spend the evening exploring Berlin's lively nightlife with the Mitte and Schöneberg districts particularly good for a wide selection of restaurants and bars.

Day 2

After settling into your modern, stylish Gold class cabin, enjoy dinner in one of the beautifully designed restaurant cars as your rail adventure begins.

Day 5

Enjoy a private concert here before returning to the Golden Eagle for dinner.

Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world, containing twenty percent of the world’s fresh water. Some of the flora and fauna here is unique to this area including omul, a fish which will be served in the dining car during some of your meals. Day 2

In the early afternoon, board the luxurious Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express which will be your home for next twelve days. After settling into your modern, stylish Imperial Suite, enjoy dinner in one of the beautifully designed restaurant cars as your rail adventure begins.

The highlight of the tour is a poignant visit to the site, now a memorial church, where the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas Romanov and his family were executed.
