Freiburg is a pretty city close to the Black Forest in southern Germany. Once you've settled in to your hotel, head for the Augustinerplatz in the old city for some great restaurants and bars or wander around the Münsterplatz with its distinctive red stone architecture.

Spend an afternoon at leisure in Interlaken. There are plenty of outdoor activities here. You can walk to the nature reserve of Neuhaus on Lake Thun and then catch a boat back to Interlaken. Alternatively, take a boat trip on either of Interlaken's lakes for free, using your Swiss pass. Don't miss the funicular journey up to Harder for spectacular views of the Jungfrau, Mönsch and Eiger.
Take the half hour journey by train through the Bernese Oberland to Grindelwald. On arrival in Grindelwald, check in at the Kirchbuhl Grindelwald for a 2 night stay.
Spend the rest of the day enjoying the scenery in and around this lovely resort village. Grindelwald, surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Swiss Alps, offers over eighty kilometres of walking trails with views across the majestic mountains and dramatic glaciers. If you're feeling adventurous, the Pfinstegg Toboggan Run high above the resort, offers spectacular views over the whole valley.
Travel to Europe's highest altitude railway station on the Jungfrau mountain (3454 metres). This is a unique trip which takes you to Kleine Scheidegg before climbing to the station at Eigergletscher, well known for its mountain restaurant and Huskies.
After spectacular sightseeing through large observation windows hewn from solid Alpine rock, you arrive at the Jungfraujoch, where you have incredible views (on a clear day) to the Vosges Mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany. The Great Aletsch Glacier, at 22 km the longest ice-stream in the Alps, begins on the Jungfrau Mountain. Travel back from the Jungfrau for your second night in Grindelwald.
Leave Grindelwald in the morning and head back to Interlaken and on Basel where you connect with the high speed TGV Lyria back to Paris Gare de Lyon.
In Paris, change onto Eurostar to the UK.

Come to Freiburg for fabulous architecture, good shopping and some lovely beer gardens in stunning natural surroundings. Take the longest cable car in Germany up to the peak of the Schauinsland in the Black Forest. Explore the wonderful red sandstone architecture on and around the Münsterplatz and watch out for the little Bächle running through the streets – if you fall in one, it’s said that you will marry a Freiburger!
