Spend a day enjoying the sights of Lille. Spend a morning wandering around the little shops in the Old Town or visit one of Lille’s three great art museums. Commissioned in the early 19th century by Napoleon, the Palais des Beaux Arts was one of the first galleries built in France and houses a huge collection including artists such as Monet and Toulouse-Lautrec.
Take the train in first class to Bruges via Kortrijk on the border between France and Belgium. On arrival in Bruges, check in at the Grand Casselbergh Brugge for a 2 night stay.
The Grand Casselbergh is a luxury hotel close to Bruges’ central Market Square. The hotel has been created out of three 18th century residences, once owned by local aristocracy. Classical décor and great facilities such as the spa and wellness centre ensure a relaxed stay.
Spend a full day exploring Bruges. Take a canal boat tour around the city’s network of canals, shop for local produce and gifts in the cobbled streets off the Market Square or relax in the parkland surrounding the tranquil Minnewater, known in English as the Lake of Love. After breakfast, take a regional train in first class back to Brussels Gare du Midi and connect on to your Eurostar service, travelling in Standard Premier class, to London, Ebbsfleet or Ashford.

Situated in the north of France, not far from the Belgian border, Lille is a lovely French city with a fascinating history. You can learn more about this history with a city tour or simply explore at leisure – all the main sights are easily accessible on foot. Wander around the shops and cobbled streets of the Old Town, visit the Musée des Beaux Arts, the largest museum in France outside Paris and enjoy café and patisseries in the stately Grand Place.
Bruges is a Flemish city with a lovely, cobbled medieval centre, criss-crossed by historic canals. You can take a boat tour around these for a great introduction to the city, or as a romantic alternative, take a tour by horse and cart from the central Markt Square. Climb the medieval Belfry for spectacular views or visit the Choco-Story museum before buying your own supply of Bruges’ signature confection!
The historic Hermitage Gantois Hotel dates from the 15th century and was originally built as a hospice. The Chapel, original façade, and internal courtyards remain (although one of the courtyards is now covered over and used as a the hotel's chic bar). The hotel has a gourmet restaurant and a brasserie (reserve your table in advance).
The hotel is a short walk from Vieux Lille (the Old Town), and close to the Palais des Beaux Arts gallery.
