La Rochelle is one of the most attractive port towns in France, with unspoilt, sandy beaches and plenty of attractions. The old harbour is the most picturesque part of the city with its distinctive towers - St Nicolas Tower, the Chain Tower and the Tower of the Lantern.
Enjoy another full day at leisure in La Rochelle. Wander through the pretty streets admiring the 16th and 17th Century architecture and stopping at some of the numerous boutiques along the way. Alternatively, head to the island of Île de Ré for fine, sandy beaches.

Capital of the Charente-Maritime region, La Rochelle is a beautiful French seaside town with a long and fruitful history. Previously a highly significant Atlantic Port, La Rochelle was famous as a trade stop for salt and wine and played a major part in the Anglo-French trading relationships. After a bloody siege in 1628, La Rochelle later became a principal port for the French Colonies in the Caribbean and Canada. Nowadays, La Rochelle features golden, sandy beaches and a prestigious maritime heritage.
Bordeaux has been producing wine since the 8th century and is capital of the Aquitaine region of France. It is home to the longest shopping street in Europe and a number of historically important buildings such as the Saint-André Cathedral and Église Sainte-Croix, both of which are connected with the historic pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. Don’t leave without taking a wine-tasting tour of the Bordeaux vineyards or a ferry ride down the River Garonne.
Biarritz (the pearl of the Basque coast) was made famous by the prominent figures of Napoleon and the Empress Eugenie on their travels through France. The destination is famous for its love of music, dance and cinema and celebrates this with festivals throughout the year such as 'Le Temps d'Aimer' ballet event and the Biarritz Festival of Latin American Cultures and Cinemas. Biarritz is also renowned as the historical capital of surfing in Europe and is lined with an impressive 6km of beaches.
