Montreux and Lake Maggiore
Spend six days on Lakes Geneva and Maggiore with a scenic holiday by train. Enjoy 2 nights in the Belle Epoque resort of Montreux on Lake Geneva before continuing across the Italian border for a 4 night stay in Stresa. Explore grand lakefront villas, visit the Borromean Islands and climb up into the hills for spectacular views before returning with a night enroute in Lausanne.

Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Rail
Day 1
London to Montreux
Travel by Eurostar to Paris and connect with the high speed TGV service to Lausanne which passes through the Jura Mountains before reaching the Swiss border. Change in Lausanne onto a regional service around Lake Geneva and on arrival in Montreux, check in at the Helvétie Hotel for a 2 night stay.
Day 2
Montreux
Montreux is an elegant resort overlooking Lake Geneva and the French Alps. Spend a day exploring the lovely, palm and flower lined lakefront promenade or catch a boat to the famous Château de Chillon, a fortified castle perched majestically on the edge of the lake. You might also like to catch the rack-railway line up to the Rochers-de-Naye for great views of the surrounding area.
Day 3
Montreux to Stresa
Enjoy another morning on Lake Geneva before heading back to Montreux station for the 2 hour journey across the Italian border to Stresa. On arrival in Stresa, check in at the La Palma Hotel for a 4 night stay.
After settling into your hotel, head out into the pretty town centre to browse the shops and enjoy dinner on the harbour.
Days 4 to 6
Stresa
Spend three days enjoying the scenery of Lake Maggiore. Why not take a boat trip out to one of the Borromean Islands? The most famous of these, the Isola Bella, features a lovely unfinished summer palace whilst the nearby Isola Madre, the largest of the islands, is famous for its English style gardens which date back to the early 19th century.
Also worth visiting is the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, a beautiful monastery from the 14th century, and the Villa Ducale, one of the most well-known 18th century villas on Lake Maggiore.
Day 7
Stresa to Lausanne
After another relaxing morning in Stresa, catch a train for the scenic journey to Lausanne (taking around 2 hours, 20 minutes). On arrival in Lausanne, check in for an overnight stay at the Alpha Palmiers.
Enjoy an afternoon and evening at leisure in this charming city on Lake Geneva. Visit the Cathedral for great city views or head down to the waterfront district of Ouchy for some retail therapy and an evening meal with a view.
Day 8
Lausanne to London
Leave Lausanne at lunch time today and travel back to Paris by TGV. On arrival, transfer to the Gare du Nord for your return journey to London, Ebbsfleet or Ashford.

Montreux
Montreux is in the Swiss Riviera, located on the banks of Lake Geneva, overlooking the distant French Alps. Immerse yourself in the history of the Château de Chillon, place a bet in the legendary casino, or catch a train up the rack and pillion line to the Rochers-de-Naye for spectacular views. Montreux is also a great base for exploring other resorts on Lake Geneva by boat, such as Vevey and Villeneuve.
Stresa
Stresa is an elegant Italian resort on Lake Maggiore. Just over the border from Switzerland, Stresa offers fabulous views from its lakefront promenade as well as plenty of opportunities for water sports. Take a cable car ride up to the summit of Monte Mattarone for sensational views and during the summer months, stop along the way at the Giardino Botanico Alpina, a lovely botanical garden.
Lausanne
Lausanne is situated in the French speaking part of Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva. The city’s skyline is dominated by the Gothic Cathedrale de Notre Dame which sits majestically on one of Lausanne’s many hills. Take a paddle-steamer out on the lake, wander around the pretty waterfront area of Ouchy or visit the Olympic Museum, home to the world’s largest information centre about the Olympic Games.
Helvétie Hotel 
Set in a 19th century style building and just 200m from Lake Geneva, the Helvetie is an excellent option for visitors to Montreux. The hotel features 62 individual rooms, a charming restaurant offering delicious French cuisine and a relaxing lounge area. The Helvetie Montreux is located in the heart of Montreux, just steps from the lake's promenade and close to the Chillon Castle and the Montreux casino.

La Palma Hotel 
La Palma Hotel is a modern hotel with traditional decoration. The hotel has 120 comfortable bedrooms. The hotel has a restaurant, bar, garden, pool and private beach. The hotel is on the shore of Lake Maggiore, close to Stresa train station.
