Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

London to Montreux

Take the Eurostar to Paris and connect with the onward TGV service to Lausanne. Change in Lausanne onto a regional Swiss service around Lake Geneva, arriving into Montreux in the evening. On arrival, check in at the Helvétie Hotel for a 7 night stay.

Montreux is the capital of the Vaud Riviera, an elegant resort in a stunning position, commanding views over the lake and the distant Jura Mountains.

Days 2 to 6

Montreux

Spend a full five days exploring the area around Lake Geneva.

Montreux itself offers one of the loveliest promenades on the lake which runs all the way from Vevey to Villeneuve. During the spring and summer, the lakefront is carpeted with flowers. Check out the busts of famous jazz musicians in the Montreux Palace gardens as well as the statue of Freddy Mercury which is usually also garlanded with bouquets. If you walk out of town towards Villeneuve you’ll pass the famous and widely photographed Château de Chillon (also accessible by boat) which sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking Lake Geneva and dates back to the 12th century.

Out of Montreux, you can access other resorts on Lake Geneva such as Vevey, Lausanne and Geneva by boat. Alternatively take the beautiful Golden Pass line for a daytrip to Interlaken or climb up the Rochers-de-Naye by rack-railway for some sensational views of surrounding area. You could even take a boat trip across Lake Geneva to Evian les Bains in France. Montreux is also at the centre of a major wine-growing region so there are plenty of opportunities for wine-tasting tours.

Day 7

Montreux to London

After breakfast in your hotel this morning, head back to the station for your return journey to the UK via Lausanne and Paris. Arrive back into London in the evening.

Montreux is in the Swiss Riviera, located on the banks of Lake Geneva, overlooking the distant French Alps. Immerse yourself in the history of the Château de Chillon, place a bet in the legendary casino, or catch a train up the rack and pillion line to the Rochers-de-Naye for spectacular views. Montreux is also a great base for exploring other resorts on Lake Geneva by boat, such as Vevey and Villeneuve.
