Itinerary - 4 Night Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Lucerne

Take the Eurostar to Paris and then connect onto the high speed TGV Lyria to Basel on the border between France and Switzerland, before catching a local service to Lucerne.

On arrival, check in at the Waldstaetterhof Hotel, situated right next to the station, for an overnight stay.

Lucerne is situated in an idyllic spot on the edge of the lake of the same name and ringed by mountains. Wander through the car-free old town with its half-timbered houses and pretty squares.

Day 2

Lucerne to Desenzano

Take the train from Lucerne which travels through the scenic Swiss Alps to Desenzano. You will travel through snowy passes, over vast viaducts, and alongside lakes. Enjoy views of traditional Swiss villages, lush mountain meadows and glimpses of waterfalls.

On arrival in Desenzano check-in at the Villa Rosa Hotel for your 3 night stay.

Thanks to its beautiful Alpine setting and unspoilt, stunning beaches, Desenzano attracts visitors from across Europe who come to relax on its sandy shores. As the heart of southern Garda, Desenzano's Piazza Malvezzi and Piazza Matteotti are the perfect places to enjoy a drink and soak up the atmosphere.

Days 3 and 4

Desenzano

Enjoy one of the three spotless and sparkling beaches of Desenzano. Take a refreshing swim in the lake before taking a break for lunch at one of the quaint trattorias by the harbour. Alternatively, take a ferry trip from Desenzano Port to discover the real beauty of Lake Garda passing by charming towns such as Sirmione and Riva where you can hop off for a couple of hours to enjoy the sights.

Day 5

Desenzano to London

Take the train from Desenzano to Verona, where you take a flight with British Airways in Euro Traveller Class to London.

Desenzano

Desenzano del Garda is the largest town on the Lake, with plenty to see and do as well as great rail and ferry connections to other resorts on Lake Garda. Visit the beautiful inland harbour, full of colourful little fishing boats or enjoy a drink on the main square, Piazza Matteotti. You can also indulge in some shopping here with everything from souvenirs to designer labels on offer. Don’t miss a visit to the cool interior of the 16th century church of Santa Maria Maddalena.

The capital of Piedmont in northern Italy, Turin is a cultural city on the River Po with a stunning backdrop of Alpine peaks. Visit one of the city’s world class museums such as the National Cinema Museum and the Museo Egizio, housing the second largest collection of Egyptian artefacts in the world after Cairo. After a busy day exploring make sure you find out what the ‘slow food movement’ is all about with a meal in one of Turin’s huge selection of restaurants.

Day 1

London to Lucerne

Lucerne to Desenzano

Turin

Take the train from Desenzano via Milan to Turin, (the journey time is approximately 3-4 hours). On arrival, check in at the Starhotels Majestic Turin.

Enjoy strolling the streets of Turin for an afternoon. As a city with numerous cultural institutions such as the Palazzo Carignano, home to the first Italian Parliament and the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the city is a dynamic and important part of Italian history.

Day 6

Turin to London

From Turin, travel the scenic five and a half hour journey to Paris catching glimpses of the French Alps, before stopping for lunch in romantic Paris or transferring straight onto your Eurostar back to London.

Desenzano del Garda is the largest town on the Lake, with plenty to see and do as well as great rail and ferry connections to other resorts on Lake Garda.
