Itinerary - 7 Night Luxury Holiday by Rail
Day 1
London to Zurich
Travel on the Eurostar from London to Paris, where you transfer onto the famous TGV train to Zurich. Speed through the French Champagne region passing quaint French villages and picturesque countryside before arriving into Zurich in time for dinner.
On arrival in Zurich check in at the Schweizerhof Hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2
Zurich to Lake Como
Take the train from Zurich through the scenic Swiss Alps to Tremezzo. You will travel through snowy passes, over vast viaducts, and alongside glacial lakes. Enjoy views of traditional Swiss villages, lush mountain meadows and glimpses of waterfalls before you arrive in Lugano. From Lugano you are transferred by private car to Tremezzo where you check in at the stunning Grand Hotel Tremezzo for a 4 night stay.
Days 3 to 5
Lake Como
Spend three days relaxing in pretty Tremezzo on Lake Como. This village with its villas and hotels dating back to the 17th Century, offers some of the most spectacular views on Lake Como and is the perfect base to spend a few days. Go for a dip in one of the hotel's two outdoor swimming pools, visit the famous Villa Carlotta with its stunning Italian Gardens or see the lake from the water with a boat trip to neighbouring Mennagio or Bellagio. In the evening, admire the stunning views and enjoy delicious Italian cuisine from a lakeside trattoria or from one of the hotel's restaurants.
Day 6
Verona
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you take a boat from Tremezzo to Como (payable locally). You then travel by train to Verona where you check in at the Due Torri Hotel for an overnight stay.
The rest of the day is free to explore Verona at your leisure. Full of relics from the glory days of the Roman Empire, Verona is an Italian gem. Spend an afternoon exploring the city's centro storico (old town) and discovering some of the Roman and Romanesque architecture on show, such as the Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore and the Roman Theatre. In the evening, enjoy a candlelit opera in the stunning setting of the famous Arena.
Day 7
Board the Venice Simplon Orient Express
Spend the morning in Verona before you board the splendid Wagons-Lits carriages of the Venice Simplon Orient Express at Verona Porta Nuova train station. Your steward will show you to your private compartment, before you enjoy a three-course lunch as you gaze at the beautiful passing scenery of the Italian Dolomites and the Austrian and Swiss Alps. Afternoon tea is served in your compartment. A four-course dinner is served in the evening.
Day 8
Arrive in London
Wake to views of the French countryside before enjoying breakfast served in your cabin. Shortly after, pull in to Paris Gare de l'Est for a brief stop before enjoying a sophisticated brunch as you head to Calais. Bid a fond farewell to the Orient Express as you travel under the Channel and connect onto the impressive British Pullman. Enjoy afternoon High Tea as you roll gently through the Kentish countryside all the way back to London.

Tremezzo
Tremezzo is located in the middle of Lake Como and is a popular tourist destination. This is the perfect place to sit back, relax, and watch the world go by. With easy access to the towns of Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio this is a great location to marvel at the picturesque scenery of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Verona
Verona is a UNESCO World Heritage listed city in the Veneto region. Famous for its stunning Roman and Romanesque architecture, Verona will also forever be associated with Romeo and Juliet, one of three plays that Shakespeare set here, ‘in this fair city’. Romantics can visit many sites traditionally linked to the star-crossed lovers, whilst culture vultures can get fabulous city views from the Castel San Pietro or see an opera performance in the famous Amphitheatre.
Cabins
Travelling in private cabins impeccably restored to their former glory, passengers are assured of a truly unique travel experience complemented by the very best personal service.
Each cabin has an original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water, and at night-time becomes a comfortable bedroom, with soft towels and crisp linen. Double Cabins feature a single cabin room, whilst the Cabin Suites feature the ultimate luxury of two inter-connecting cabins. Toilet facilities are available in each carriage, luxuriously appointed and maintained to the highest standards by our stewards.
Dining
All dishes are freshly prepared on the train by skilled French chefs. Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by the Italian waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Lalique, Etoile du Nord or Chinoise. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served to passengers in the comfort of the train's luxury cabins. Table d'hôte meals are included in the fare, while an à la carte menu and 24-hour compartment service is available additionally. The Maitre D' will come to your cabin to take your lunch and dinner reservations in advance of your meal.

The Schweizerhof Hotel in Zurich is a traditional family-run hotel, with 115 comfortable and elegant bedrooms. Guests are provided with a butler service on arrival (Monday to Friday), a welcome cocktail at the bar and fresh fruit in their bedroom. The hotel has a French restaurant, a bustling café, and guests enjoy a champagne American style buffet breakfast. The hotel is opposite the main railway station, on the famous "Bahnhofstrasse".
