Itinerary - Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

London to Amsterdam

Take the train under the channel to Brussels and then change onto the regional service to Amsterdam (journey time from Brussels around 3 hours). On arrival in Amsterdam, check in to the Roemer Hotel Amsterdam for a 2 night stay.

The Dutch capital is a vibrant city famous for its UNESCO World Heritage listed canals and its liberal outlook. Spend the evening wandering around the cobbled streets of the canal district or enjoying dinner on the Leidesplein.

Day 2

Keukenhof Day trip from Amsterdam

Enjoy a full day tour to the spectacular Keukenhof Gardens today. Drive through the pretty Dutch countryside to Keukenhof, the world’s largest flower garden, also known as the Garden of Europe. Here you have 7 hours free time to see the fabulous, colourful displays of over seven million tulips, hyacinths daffodils and spring bulbs. Why not hire a bike or take a tour in a ‘whisper boat’ to see the gardens from a different perspective? You can bring a picnic lunch or choose to eat at one of the many restaurants in the park.

At the end of your day at the Keukenhof Gardens, return to Amsterdam for your second night in the hotel.

Day 3

Amsterdam to Eindhoven

This morning, take the hour and a half journey by train to Eindhoven. On arrival, check in at the Holiday Inn Eindhoven where you will stay for 2 nights.

Spend an afternoon enjoying the sights of Eindhoven which is a buzzing Dutch city, famous for its industrial design and contemporary architecture. Visit some of the landmark buildings in the city or why not take in a visit to the Van Abbemuseum, a great modern and contemporary art gallery?

Day 4

Floriade day trip from Eindhoven

After breakfast this morning, take a regional train from Eindhoven to Venlo (journey time around 40 minutes) and then catch a shuttle bus (payable locally) to the Floriade 2012 Expo.

Enjoy a full day at the park which covers 66 hectares with five different worlds separated by wooded areas. Find out how nature affects your health and wellbeing in 'Relax & Heal', discover horticulture as a compliment to industry in 'Green Engine' or enjoy a stunning programme of entertainment at the 'World Show Stage'.

After your day out at the Floriade Expo, return for a second night in Eindhoven.

Day 5

Eindhoven to London

Make a leisurely start this morning and then return to the station for your return journey by rail to the UK, via Maastricht, Liege and Brussels.

Eindhoven is a major Dutch city which, despite its modern appearance is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. Discover Eindhoven's industrial history with a tour of landmark buildings such as the Evoluon, the Witte Dame and De Admirant, the highest building in the city. Alternatively, visit one of the city's art galleries such as the contemporary Van Abbemuseum. If you hire a bike there are over a hundred National Heritage sites to explore outside the centre of town.
