After a morning in Montreux travel on the Golden Pass Line. There are two different types of carriages, modern panoramic and vintage 1915 belle epoque.
Leaving Montreux, the train rises above Lake Geneva with magnificent views of the Swiss Riviera. At Jaman, the Golden Pass train plunges through a mountain tunnel, before heading for the resorts of Châteaux d’Oex and Gstaad.
The Golden Pass Line reaches its highest point (1,274m) before reaching Zweisimmen.
From Zweisimmen, the GoldenPass Line winds through the Simme Valley (home of the famous Swiss Simmental cows) before arriving into Interlaken located between Lakes Thun and Brienz.
Check into the Hotel du Nord, where you will stay for two nights.
You have a free day to explore the Interlaken region and Railbookers strongly recommends taking the scenic railway up the Jungfrau mountain. Once at the top you are at the highest train station in Europe at 3454 metres above sea level (supplements apply for this trip). This is a unique journey which takes you on a cog railway to Kleine Scheidegg before climbing to Jungfraujoch, where you have incredible views (on a clear day) over the Vosges Mountains in France and the Black Forest in Germany.
Alternatively you can spend the day taking a boat trip around Lakes Thun or Brienz or in summer months take the funicular up Mount Harder for views of the Jungfrau, Monch, and Eiger mountains.
After breakfast you continue on the Golden Pass Line. The Golden Pass train travels alongside the shores of five lakes, before climbing up to the Brünig Pass. Finally the journey ends in historic Lucerne.
Check into the Waldstaetterhof Hotel, where you will stay overnight.
After checking in to the hotel you have time to spend the afternoon in charming Lucerne. You can explore the old town's classical Swiss architecture, including the stunning Baroque Jesuit church and the medieval Chapel Bridge. Or just enjoy the waterfront by hiring a bike or wandering along the elegant promenade.
After a morning in Lucerne, take the train to Basel before connecting on to the high speed TGV Lyria train to Paris and then home on the Eurostar.

Located in a valley and between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken is an excellent base to explore Switzerland. Sail on either of the two lakes, paraglide from the nearby mountains and enjoy spectacular views of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönsch peaks or, if you'd rather keep two feet on the ground, simply take a funicular railway line up the Harder, where you can enjoy the mountain views over lunch.
Lucerne is a picturesque city in the centre of Switzerland, set on Lake Lucerne and offering lovely views of the distant Alps. There is plenty of classic Swiss architecture to see from the half-timbered houses of the Old Town, to the elegant spires of the city’s churches and the medieval wooden bridges, the most famous of which is the Chapel Bridge, originally built in 1333. There is also a great market on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings, set in arcades along the River Reuss.
Set in a 19th century style building and just 200m from Lake Geneva, the Helvetie is an excellent option for visitors to Montreux. The hotel features 62 individual rooms, a charming restaurant offering delicious French cuisine and a relaxing lounge area.
