Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Zurich

Travel on the Eurostar from London to Paris, where you transfer onto the famous TGV train to Zurich. Speed through the French Champagne region passing quaint French villages and picturesque countryside before arriving into Zurich in time for dinner.

Check in at the Hotel du Théâtre for your overnight stay.

Zurich is Switzerland's most cosmopolitan and elegant city, situated on the banks of the river Limmat. The city features an impressive number of art galleries and museums, among which are the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus. Spend the evening by the lake in the old town district of Niederdorf, famous for its bars, restaurants, lounges and fashion shops for the young and stylish.

Day 2

Zurich to Florence

After breakfast, take the Eurocity train from Zurich to Florence via Milan. Relax whilst the train cuts through the Alps on the famous Brenner pass across the border into Italy. As well as the stunning mountain scenery the train runs next to Lakes Lugano and Como. After a quick change over in Milan you arrive into Florence station in the afternoon.

Spend the afternoon visiting some of the delightful sights of Florence. Take a walk through the buzzing squares of Piazza San Giovanni (with its spectacular cathedral), the Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce featuring Renaissance palaces decorated with frescos. Don’t miss a walk across Florence's Ponte Vecchio, "bridge of gold", named for its jewellers and goldsmiths and offering beautiful views across the Arno river.

Day 3

Florence

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, before spending the day in Florence at your own leisure. Discover the reasons behind Florence's reputation as the "capital of art". Visit the most famous museum in Florence, the Uffizi which houses works by Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Alternatively visit more of Italy's famous churches such as the San Lorenzo, Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce.

Day 4

Florence to Siena

Journey from Florence to Siena (approximately one and a half hours) on the local intercity train.

Check in to the Athena Hotel Siena for your 2 night stay in the heart of Siena.

Surrounded by olive groves and the vineyards of Chianti, Siena's ancient Romanesque architecture and fine Italian roots make this town a stunning destination to visit. The Duomo, Siena's grand cathedral and St Maria della Scala museum offer great insights into the history of the town and a clear reason behind its World UNESCO Heritage status. Soak up the atmosphere of the bustling markets in Piazza del Campo before enjoying a traditional Siennese evening meal - perhaps the pappardelle sulla lepre (pasta with hare sauce), washed down with a glass of Chianti classico.

Day 5

Siena

Spend your 2nd day in Siena exploring more of the sights. Take a walk through the sea of vineyards and olive groves surrounding the city or travel the short distance to the Arbia valley and to the hill-top town of Montalcino, home to the famous Brunello wine.

Alternatively, spend the afternoon discovering more of the Gothic architecture, quaint churches, 17th century gardens and various le fonti, "fountains" displayed throughout the city.

Day 6

Siena to Lucca

Take the regional Tuscan train through Florence to Lucca (approximate journey time of 3 hours).

Check in to the San Luca Palace Hotel for your 2 night stay.

Protected by 16th Century walls, Lucca is a medieval gem of Tuscany. Featuring superb dining, charming antique markets, and only half an hour away from beautiful beaches, there is plenty to occupy the traveller's mind.

Day 7

Lucca

After breakfast, explore the highlights of Lucca such as the cathedral San Martino, the churches of San Michele and San Frediano, and the Guinigi Tower belonging to the prestigious Guingi family. Spend the afternoon shopping for Italian treats and boutique clothing on Via Gallitassi before relaxing in Piazza San Michele with a glass of local wine.

Day 8

Lucca to London

Travel back on the regional train to Pisa before boarding your Euro Traveller flight back to London.
