Days 1 to 3

Berlin

Fly with British Airways in Euro Traveller Class from London to Berlin.
On arrival in Berlin, check-in for 2 nights at the Arcotel John F Berlin.

The city of Berlin is like a living museum of 20th Century Europe. From the newly rebuilt Reichstag, famously razed to the ground by the Nazis in 1933 to the Kaiser-Wilhelm Gedächtnis Church whose half bombed spire still dominates the skyline, not mention the museums and monuments dedicated to the Berlin Wall, the city is endlessly fascinating for anyone interested in recent history.

On the other hand, Berlin is also a city of the future, with a vibrant culture and plenty of great galleries, shopping and attractions to while the days away. In the evening, head to the Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg areas of the city for great restaurants and bars.

Days 3 to 5

Amsterdam

Take the Intercity train service in the morning for the 6 and a half hour journey to Amsterdam. On arrival in Amsterdam, check-in for 2 nights at the Hampshire Rembrandt Square Hotel Amsterdam.

Often referred to as ‘the Venice of the North’, Amsterdam has more than one hundred kilometres of canals, around ninety islands and fifteen hundred bridges. The 17th Century network of three main canals in the centre has now been granted UNESCO World Heritage status. The city is also a centre of culture, with seventy-five festivals a year and some great galleries including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. Take a cruise along the canals, visit the Anne Frank House or the Oude Kirche or go shopping in the Nine Streets (negen straatjes) for jewellers, boutiques and vintage stores.

When you need a break, there are plenty of cafés and restaurants to discover. Or you could even go further afield and find a stretch of beach to relax on at Zandvoort or Bloemendaal aan Zee.

Days 5 to 7

Paris

Travel at speed by Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris (journey time approximately 3 hours 15 minutes). On arrival in Paris check-in for 2 nights at the Best Western Le Jardin de Cluny.

Paris, the city of lights and love is a must-see destination on any tour of Europe. Visit the Louvre or Musée d’Orsay for dazzling art collections, wander down the Champs Elysées for essential shopping, or view the beauty of the city from the top of the Eiffel Tower, outside the Sacré Coeur Cathedral at the top of la Butte de Montmartre or from a Bateau Mouche as you cruise along the Seine.

In the evening, relax in one of the many fashionable districts of Paris. Catch a performance at the beautiful Opéra Garnier, the city’s largest opera house, or a revue at the Moulin Rouge or book dinner at a traditional Parisian brasserie.

Days 7 and 8

Zurich

After breakfast, hop on the high speed TGV train which travels through French countryside to Zurich in around 4 hours, 30 minutes. On arrival in Zurich, check-in for your overnight stay at the Hotel du Théâtre.

The most cosmopolitan of Switzerland’s cities, Zurich enjoys a superb position on the River Limmat at the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. Go shopping along the Bahnhofstrasse, check out one of the exhibitions at the Kunsthaus (museum of fine arts), or have a drink at one of the lakeside bars in the trendy Niederdorf district.

Days 8 to 10

Venice

Take the train from Zurich to Milan (journey time approximately 3 hours 40 minutes). The route of this spectacular journey follows the shores of Lake Lucerne before plunging through the Gotthard Pass. Travel down through high mountain passes, wide green valleys and alpine villages perched precariously on the hillsides. On arrival in Milan transfer onto the High Speed Eurostar Italia from Milan to Venice. On arrival in Venice check in for your 2 night stay at the Ai Mori d' Oriente Hotel.

Venice, ‘the floating city’ still casts its spell on throngs of visitors each year as it has done since the 18th century, when it became a major hub for the original Grand Tour. The city is made up 117 islands stretched across the Venetian lagoon and has long been hailed as one of the most beautiful and exceptional cities in the world.

Discover for yourself the Queen of the Adriatic with a gondola ride down the Grand Canal, a stroll through the city’s labyrinthine streets and campos (squares) or by just sitting in a pavement café and enjoying the spectacular views.

Days 10 and 11

Rome

After breakfast take the Eurostar Italia train across Italy from Venice to the Italian capital - Rome. On arrival, check in for a 2 night stay at the Modigliani Rome.

A fitting end to our tour, Rome can be described as the cradle of Western Europe. The evidence of the city’s 2700 year history is written in the buildings, monuments and artworks on display around every corner.

Walk in the footsteps of the gladiators at the Colosseum, experience the wonder of the Sistine Chapel with its famous ceiling, mix art and nature at the Villa Borghese or take a well earned break with a large ice-cream sundae in the Piazza Navona and reminisce on your fantastic holiday.

Day 12

Rome to London

After another morning in Rome, head to Fiumicino Airport for your BA flight back to London.
