Taormina on the east coast of Sicily is a stunning resort set on a hill overlooking the Ionian coast. At one end of the bay is the famous volcano, Mount Etna; at the other is the impressive Teatro Greco, the remains of a theatre dating back to Greek occupation and offering jaw-dropping views of the resort and coastline. Make sure you take the aerial tramway down to the beach for a dip in the warm waters of the Ionian Sea.
