The cathedral has a thousand year old crypt dedicated to Saint Benignus and is known for its "lucky owl" who will grant wishes to those who touch it. The Ducal Palace or "Palace of the Dukes and the States of Burgundy" is also worth a visit. Originally a fortress to protect the Dukes of Burgundy it was rebuilt in1366 by the first Duke of Valois, Philippe the Bold.

Day 2

Most importantly, the city is world famous for its mustard - the perfect gift to take home. In addition to this, Dijon is also home to some of the finest vineyards in the world, producing wines such as Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin all just 20 minutes away from the city centre.

Capital of the Rhône Alpes area, Lyon is perfect for a short break. Visit the Cathédrale St. Jean, dating back to the 12th century and noted for its unusual astronomical clock or relax in the Parc de la Tête de l'Or, a beautiful park featuring a lake and stunning botanical gardens. Alternatively, stop for afternoon tea at the prestigious Lyon Opera House before enjoying a meal at one of Lyon's gourmet restaurants.
