Dijon boasts a large number of impressive churches such as the 13th century cathedral and Notre Dame de Dijon. The cathedral has a thousand year old crypt dedicated to Saint Benignus and is known for its "lucky owl" who will grant wishes to those who touch it. The Ducal Palace or "Palace of the Dukes and the States of Burgundy" is also worth a visit. Originally a fortress to protect the Dukes of Burgundy it was rebuilt in1366 by the first Duke of Valois, Philippe the Bold.
No trip to Dijon is complete without sampling some of the city's celebrated cuisine. Dishes such as beef bourguignon, coq au vin and escargot all come from this gastronomic haven. Most importantly, the city is world famous for its mustard - the perfect gift to take home. In addition to this, Dijon is also home to some of the finest vineyards in the world, producing wines such as Vosne-Romanée and Gevrey-Chambertin all just 20 minutes away from the city centre.
Travel from Dijon to Lyon on the TGV train passing through the Burgundy countryside and towns such as Chalon-sur-Saône and Macon. Journey time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

Alternatively, stop for afternoon tea at the prestigious Lyon Opera House before enjoying a meal at one of Lyon's gourmet restaurants.
Spend your second day in Lyon admiring the city's charming Old Town or Vieux Carré, known as the heart of Lyon. Discover more of its Old World attractions such the Place Bellecour and the Amphitheatre of Les Trois Gauls. Browse the charming shops and dine at a “bouchon" café, specialising in traditional Lyonnaise cuisine.
With more restaurants per Gothic and Renaissance square metre of the old town than anywhere else on earth, you are assured to find plenty of options for a traditional feast. Don’t leave Lyon without sampling a drop of typical Côtes-du-Rhone or Hermitage wine!
After breakfast, journey back to Paris or Lille before transferring onto the Eurostar back home.

Lyon is a vibrant city which makes the most of its unique cultural, gastronomic and cultural heritage. All chapters of Lyon’s two thousand year old history have left visible traces on the city’s architecture and culture. From Roman ruins to contemporary skyscrapers, there’s a lot to explore here. The food is also well worth discovering with Lyonnais cuisine among the most celebrated in France. Burn off lunch with a walk up to the Fourvière Basilica for spectacular city views.
