Itinerary - 6 Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

London to Nice

Speed under the Channel from London to Paris in 2 hours 15 minutes before transferring onto your high-speed TGV train to Nice. Spend your journey enjoying the changing landscape flash past your window before arriving in Nice under 6 hours later.

Check in at the contemporary and artistic Windsor Hotel Nice, located in the heart of the city, for your overnight stay.

Spend the evening enjoying some of the famous local cuisine on the attractive seafront. The Promenade des Anglais ("Promenade of the English) and Place Masséna, lined with palm trees, are popular spots for tourists and locals alike, and host many public events including the annual carnival.

Day 2

Nice to Calvi

The following morning, board the ferry from Nice to Calvi. Journey time is approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes. Italian inspired meals are available in the restaurant and the bar on the top deck is perfect for enjoying the beautiful views across the French Riviera. There's also the possibility of spotting the odd whale!

Arrive in Calvi and check in at the Best Western Premier Calvi Corsica for your 4 night stay. The hotel offers a complimentary transfer from Calvi port.

Spend your first evening in Corsica admiring the delightful views, taking advantage of the hotel's fantastic restaurant or venturing into the town of Calvi. The Port de Plaisance is perfect for watching the luxurious yachts and colourful fishing boats as they head out to sea. The Quai Landry, Calvi's beachside walkway, offers numerous options for a typical Corsican meal, washed down with a glass of local wine.

Days 3 to 5

Calvi

During the next three days, discover Corsica's best kept secrets. Visit the historic sights of Calvi, such as the L'Eglise Santa Maria, a delightful Catholic Orthodox church, and the Citadel where the house rumoured to be Christopher Columbus's birthplace, stands.

Alternatively watch the world go by from the white, sandy beach stretching nearly four miles along the bay. The beach is perfect for watersports with opportunities for windsurfing, waterskiing and jet skiing.

Day 6

Calvi to Nice

Following a relaxing morning in Calvi, board the ferry back to the Côte d'Azur. Catch your last glimpse of the glamorous port, the impressive Citadel and the towering mountains as you return to Nice.

Check into the Windsor Hotel Nice for your overnight stay. Spend the evening in the charming old town of Nice. Wander through Vieux Nice to discover traditional French architecture and markets filled with fresh Niçoise delicacies.

Day 7

Nice to London

After breakfast, travel back from Nice on the high-speed TGV to Paris. Stop for lunch in the romantic capital or transfer straight onto your Eurostar home.

Nice

Nice

Nice is the capital of the French Riviera and the epitome of Côte d’Azur chic. Wander along the famous beachfront Promenade des Anglais or explore the tiny winding streets of the Old Town and the highly scented flower market. Nice also provided inspiration for some notable artists and you can see some of these represented in the collection at the Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret, which occupies a former private mansion, built in 1878 for a Ukranian princess.

Calvi

Calvi

Dating back to the Neolithic period, Calvi has a rich and varied history. Until 1729, Calvi was part of the Genoese empire which inspired the famous legend that Christopher Columbus was born in the town. Calvi is also infamous as the setting where, during a brutal two month attack on the town in 1794, Lord Nelson lost his eye and exclaimed he hoped never to see the place again! Calvi became a popular escape for the glitterati of the 1950s and now boasts a glamorous marina, boutique shops and of course, stunning scenery.

Corsica Ferries consists of a fleet of 11 vessels. The ferry offers boutique shops selling perfume, sunglasses, jewellery and toys for younger passengers. A self service restaurant is available as well as a gourmet restaurant for passengers who prefer a formal meal on board. All meals are freshly prepared and the restaurants are members of the Chaîne des Rotisseurs which a guarantee for international cuisine of the highest quality and the professionalism of the chefs. A swimming pool, children’s area and relaxation lounge are also available on board to ensure a comfortable journey.

For day crossings, customers are booked into comfortable seats on the main deck of the ferry. Upgraded "Exclusive" cabins are availble which feature 2 beds.

For night crossings, different types of accommodation are available. "Holiday" cabins feature 2 or 4 beds, a shower and WC. "Luxe" cabins feature 2 or 3 beds, shower, WC and more luxurious furnishings. "Top Class" cabins feature outside and spacious cabin with 2 or 4 beds, upper deck, shower and WC. "Cruise" cabins feature an outside cabin with 2 or 4 beds, upper deck, shower and WC. To upgrade to a cabin, please call our Travel Consultants for details.
