Munich is one of the most picturesque cities in Germany and set in the heart of Bavaria, can offer travellers an unforgettable experience. The old town hall, for example, dates from the 15th century and currently houses a toy museum which contains items from the early part of the 19th century.
The new town hall is a large gothic building which is famed for its still-working Glockenspiel, where figures perform the Schläffertanz or cooper's dance, which was first performed in the square in 1517 to celebrate the end of the plague in the city.
The centrepiece of the city has to be Marienplatz, with its wealth of bars and restaurants which dot the streets leading to and from the square.
After a morning in Munich take the high speed German ICE train to the German capital, Berlin. The German ICE trains have a full restaurant car so you can relax and eat lunch whilst watching the train speed through Germany.
Once in Berlin check in at the superbly located Arcotel John F Berlin, where you will stay for three nights. The hotel is situated in the Museum Quarter in Berlin, right next to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and perfectly located to explore the city.
Spend the next few days in this fascinating city. Berlin is full of history, culture, fabulous buildings and museums, along with a wide range of excellent restaurants and bars and a strong tradition in the performing arts.
There is no better place to start in Berlin than the Berlin Wall. Symbolisations of the division between the capitalist West and communist East sections of the wall can be visited at several locations, most notably at the East Side Gallery. Checkpoint Charlie also provides an emotional view of the wall's history.
The imposing Reichstag is another building with huge historical significance and a favourite among tourists. A climb up to the glass dome is recommended for the wonderful views, photographic exhibition and rooftop restaurant. Brandenburg Gate also has a fascinating past and is one of Germany's most recognisable symbols.
Leave Berlin after breakfast and travel by high speed train through Cologne and then Eurostar to London via Brussels (approximately 9 hour journey). Stop-over’s en route are available, please call for details.
