Itinerary - 14 Night Luxury Holiday by Rail - Silver Class Cabin

Days 1 and 2

Yerevan

On arrival in Yerevan you are met and transferred to the private train. Board the Golden Eagle Trans Siberian Express and settle into your modern and stylish Silver Class cabin.

Spend the rest of the day in Yerevan. Yerevan is a historical city which is overshadowed by Mount Ararat in nearby Turkey. Visit the fortress of Yerebuni which was built in the 8th century BC and wander through the city’s historical streets.

In the evening, enjoy dinner onboard as the Golden Eagle Trans Siberian Express departs Yerevan.

Day 3

Lake Sevan

Awake to picturesque views as the train travels along the shores of Lake Sevan. Stop for lunch by the lake which is nearly 2000 metres above sea level. Look out for ancient Armenian churches as you leave Lake Sevan and travel towards Georgia.

Day 4

Tbilisi, Georgia

The first stop today is Tbilisi, Georgia, where you are taken on a city tour. Wander around the narrow streets and alleyways of the old part of the city which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Places of interest include the 13th century Metekhi castle, Narikala fortress, Anchikhati Cathedral and the Great Hall of the Georgian Philharmonia. Return to the train for dinner and an evening departure.

Day 5

David-Gareja Monastery, near Tbilisi

Today is spent visiting the David-Gareja Monastery Complex which is located two miles from the Azeri border. The David-Gareja is a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising a total of thirteen monasteries. Your tour will take in the most significant of these, the Lavra Monastery, built in the 6th century and famous for its frescos and manuscript illuminations. Dinner is served back onboard the train.

Day 6

Kutaisi and Borjomi

Spend the morning visiting Georgia's second largest city, Kutaisi. Located at the foot of Mount Gabashvili, Kutaisi is a medieval city and was capital of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis. Enjoy a tour of some of the city's splendid architectural attractions including the Gelati Monastery and Academy. Lunch is served on the Golden Eagle as the train winds down the Borjomi Gorge.

The next stop today is the town of Borjomi which lieson the banks of the Mtkvari River in the middle of the beautiful Borjomi Gorge. After a tour of the area, return to the train for dinner as you travel the short distance from Borjomi to Gori.

Day 7

Gori, Uplistsikhe Cave City and Mtskheta

Gori is one of the oldest cities in Georgia and was founded in the 7th century AD. Visit the house where Stalin was born which is now preserved next to the Stalin Museum. Travel on to Uplistsikhe where you stop for a barbecue lunch on the banks of the Mtkvari River accompanied by traditional music. After lunch, spend the afternoon exploring the cave city of Uplistsikhe which has also now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8

Telavi

The 2,000 year old settlement of Telavi sits on the northern slopes of the Tsiv-Gombori Mountain range and is known for producing the finest Georgian wines. Visit the Herekle Palace which was built by Herekle II in the 17th century and take a trip to the famous Tsinandali Winery, where you will have a wine tasting and lunch. Return to the train in the afternoon as you head south over the border into Azerbaijan.

Day 9

Baku, Azerbaijan

After breakfast on the train you arrive at Baku which is the capital city of Azerbaijan and lies on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. On arrival in Baku you are transferred to a hotel for an overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day visiting the old town area and fortress of Icheri-Shekher.

Day 10

Pyatigorsk, Russia

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before catching a flight from Baku to Mineralnye Vody where you are transferred to Pyatigorsk. Pyatigorsk is the oldest health resort in Russia. Visit the Konstantinovskaya fortress, stroll along the tree-lined Kirov Prospect or take a cable car up to Mount Mashuk.

Day 11

Kislovodsk

Kislovodsk is considered to be the most beautiful of all the Min-Vody spa towns. Lunch is served at the Zamok (Castle) restaurant.

In the afternoon you are taken on a tour of the city. Sights include the Narzan Spring (Giant’s Drink), around which Kislovodsk was built, and Kurortny Park where you can take a cable car to the top of Mount Maloe Sedlo. The Golden Eagle train departs as dinner is served.

Day 12

Tagenrog, Tanais and Azov

The first stop today is the pleasant waterfront town of Tagenrog. Visit the Nedvigovka village where excavations are taking place that have revealed the original Greek settlement of Tanaïs. The train stops by the side of the excavations. The final stop today is the historical city of Azov which was founded in the 3rd century.

Day 13

Rostov and Starocherkassk

The morning is spent on the train and you then arrive in Rostov-on-Don which is a river and sea port and gateway to the Caucasus. See the main sights of Rostov as you are taken on a tour of the city. Wander down the main Bolshaya Sadovaya street, past Pushkin Street and to the gold-domed Cathedral of the Nativity.

You then transfer onto a hydrofoil which will take you 22 miles upriver to the island of Starocherkassk for the afternoon. Return to the train for dinner and an evening departure.

Day 14

Moscow

After travelling over 5,000 kilometres, the Golden Eagle arrives into Moscow. Your city tour of Moscow takes you principally to Red Square, an iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might. Here you will see an eclectic mix of fascinating architecture, such as the ornate St Basil’s Cathedral with its magnificent onion-domed spires, the grandeur of The Kremlin and the sombre and evocative site of Lenin’s tomb. At the conclusion of your city tour, transfer to the Marriott Royal Aurora Moscow (or similar) located in the heart of this vibrant city. Your final evening is spent saying goodbye to your fellow travelling companions and friends at the Farewell Dinner.

Day 15

Moscow

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to your Moscow airport or train station to begin your journey home.

Moscow

Moscow is a mighty capital city with some iconic attractions including the Red Square, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Tomb, containing the Communist leader’s embalmed body, St Basil’s Cathedral and Gorky Park. Make sure you have a look around the grand and ornately decorated State Historical Museum, just next to the Kremlin. Some of the stations on the metro resemble underground stately homes and are well worth a visit!

The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express is a new train which brings unprecedented luxury to the world's greatest train journey. The Golden Eagle train transports you from Moscow through to the Ukraine.

The 12 ensuite sleeping cars feature state of the art amenities. 77sq ft (7 sq m) Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and include power showers, underfloor heating, DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Silver Class cabins are more compact at 60 sq ft (5.5 sq m) but have similar facilities.

A particular delight of the Golden Eagle are the two restaurant cars, where the chefs serve meals using (wherever possible) local ingredients. Whether it be world-renowned "Borsch" or Omul - a fish unique to Lake Baikal, meals are complemented by wines from around the world, as well as - naturally - vodka.

Silver Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Silver sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 60 sq ft. Silver Class cabins a private en-suite bathroom with a ‘wet-room’ style shower, a toilet, and all of the amenities that are provided in a New Heritage Class cabin. Silver Class cabins sleep 2 in a lower small double bed (4ft) or bunk style.

Gold Class
The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express comprises of twelve fully en-suite Gold sleeping cars which feature state of the art amenities and are 77 sq ft. Gold Class cabins are well-proportioned and have everything from power showers and underfloor heating to a DVD/CD player, LCD screen and individual air-conditioning. Gold Class Cabins sleep 2 in either a lower standard (4ft 6) double bed or bunk style. Drinks are also included from the Standard Bar List.

Imperial Suite
Imperial Suites are 120 sq ft in size and are the most spacious cabins available onboard the Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express. Each suite has a luxurious fixed king-size bed as well as a lounge area with dressing table. The Imperial Suites feature private en-suite facilities with power shower and under floor heating. Other amenities include individual air-conditioning, a DVD/CD player with LCD screen, and two large picture windows. Guests staying in an Imperial Suites will also benefit from a dedicated butler service, complimentary drinks from the premium bar list, the option of in-cabin dining, free laundry service and room upgrades at the featured hotels.

The morning is spent on the train and you then arrive in Rostov-on-Don which is a river and sea port and gateway to the Caucasus. See the main sights of Rostov as you are taken on a tour of the city. Wander down the main Bolshaya Sadovaya street, past Pushkin Street and to the gold-domed Cathedral of the Nativity.

You then transfer onto a hydrofoil which will take you 22 miles upriver to the island of Starocherkassk for the afternoon. Return to the train for dinner and an evening departure.

Day 14

Moscow

After travelling over 5,000 kilometres, the Golden Eagle arrives into Moscow. Your city tour of Moscow takes you principally to Red Square, an iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might. Here you will see an eclectic mix of fascinating architecture, such as the ornate St Basil’s Cathedral with its magnificent onion-domed spires, the grandeur of The Kremlin and the sombre and evocative site of Lenin’s tomb. At the conclusion of your city tour, transfer to the Marriott Royal Aurora Moscow (or similar) located in the heart of this vibrant city. Your final evening is spent saying goodbye to your fellow travelling companions and friends at the Farewell Dinner.

Day 15

Moscow

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to your Moscow airport or train station to begin your journey home.

Some of the stations on the metro resemble underground stately homes and are well worth a visit!

Itinerary - 14 Night Luxury Holiday by Rail - Imperial Suite Cabin

Days 1 and 2

Yerevan

On arrival in Yerevan you are met and transferred to the private train. Board the Golden Eagle Trans Siberian Express and settle into your modern and stylish Silver Class cabin.

Spend the rest of the day in Yerevan. Yerevan is a historical city which is overshadowed by Mount Ararat in nearby Turkey. Visit the fortress of Yerebuni which was built in the 8th century BC and wander through the city’s historical streets.

In the evening, enjoy dinner onboard as the Golden Eagle Trans Siberian Express departs Yerevan.

Day 3

Lake Sevan

Awake to picturesque views as the train travels along the shores of Lake Sevan. Stop for lunch by the lake which is nearly 2000 metres above sea level. Look out for ancient Armenian churches as you leave Lake Sevan and travel towards Georgia.

Day 4

Tbilisi, Georgio

The first stop today is Tbilisi, Georgia, where you are taken on a city tour. Wander around the narrow streets and alleyways of the old part of the city which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Places of interest include the 13th century Metekhi castle, Narikala fortress, Anchikhati Cathedral and the Great Hall of the Georgian Philharmonia. Return to the train for dinner and an evening departure.

Day 5

David-Gareja Monastery, near Tbilisi

Today is spent visiting the David-Gareja Monastery Complex which is located two miles from the Azeri border. The David-Gareja is a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising a total of thirteen monasteries. Your tour will take in the most significant of these, the Lavra Monastery, built in the 6th century and famous for its frescos and manuscript illuminations. Dinner is served back onboard the train.

Day 6

Kutaisi and Borjomi

Spend the morning visiting Georgia's second largest city, Kutaisi. Located at the foot of Mount Gabashvili, Kutaisi is a medieval city and was capital of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis. Enjoy a tour of some of the city's splendid architectural attractions including the Gelati Monastery and Academy. Lunch is served on the Golden Eagle as the train winds down the Borjomi Gorge.

The next stop today is the town of Borjomi which lieson the banks of the Mtkvari River in the middle of the beautiful Borjomi Gorge. After a tour of the area, return to the train for dinner as you travel the short distance from Borjomi to Gori.

Day 7

Gori, Uplistsikhe Cave City and Mtskheta

Gori is one of the oldest cities in Georgia and was founded in the 7th century AD. Visit the house where Stalin was born which is now preserved next to the Stalin Museum. Travel on to Uplistsikhe where you stop for a barbecue lunch on the banks of the Mtkvari River accompanied by traditional music. After lunch, spend the afternoon exploring the cave city of Uplistsikhe which has also now been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 8

Telavi

The 2,000 year old settlement of Telavi sits on the northern slopes of the Tsiv-Gombori Mountain range and is known for producing the finest Georgian wines. Visit the Herekle Palace which was built by Herekle II in the 17th century and take a trip to the famous Tsinandali Winery, where you will have a wine tasting and lunch. Return to the train in the afternoon as you head south over the border into Azerbaijan.

Day 9

Baku, Azerbaijan

After breakfast on the train you arrive at Baku which is the capital city of Azerbaijan and lies on the western shore of the Caspian Sea. On arrival in Baku you are transferred to a hotel for an overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day visiting the old town area and fortress of Icheri-Shekher.

Day 10

Pyatigorsk, Russia

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before catching a flight from Baku to Mineralnye Vody where you are transferred to Pyatigorsk. Pyatigorsk is the oldest health resort in Russia. Visit the Konstantinovskaya fortress, stroll along the tree-lined Kirov Prospect or take a cable car up to Mount Mashuk.

Day 11

Kislovodsk

Kislovodsk is considered to be the most beautiful of all the Min-Vody spa towns. Lunch is served at the Zamok (Castle) restaurant.

In the afternoon you are taken on a tour of the city. Sights include the Narzan Spring (Giant’s Drink), around which Kislovodsk was built, and Kurortny Park where you can take a cable car to the top of Mount Maloe Sedlo. The Golden Eagle train departs as dinner is served.

Day 12

Tagenrog, Tanais and Azov

The first stop today is the pleasant waterfront town of Tagenrog. Visit the Nedvigovka village where excavations are taking place that have revealed the original Greek settlement of Tanaïs. The train stops by the side of the excavations. The final stop today is the historical city of Azov which was founded in the 3rd century.
