The "Venice of the North", Bruges is a medieval masterpiece of a city packed with winding canals and cobbled streets. Beautifully preserved houses, the famous Belfry and museums such as the Groeninge Museum give it a film set feel. If you have seen the film "In Bruges", then you will know what to expect (minus Colin Farrell!). For a glorious view of the rustic roofs of the city, a climb up the Belfort which rises 83 m from the Markt is highly recommended, despite the 366 steps!
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before you take a train to Ghent. On arrival, check in at the Novotel Gent Centrum for a 2 night stay.

Dive in to the small streets and back alleys around Zeuterzusterstraat for some of the best dining in Belgium. The bars and cafes around the Vrijdagmarkt are great for people watching. If it's shopping therapy you need then Ghent has an abundance of boutique clothes shops - head to the Kouter area.
