Travel to Paris by Eurostar. Enjoy a couple of hours free time in Paris and then hop straight on the high speed TGV Est train to Strasbourg (journey time 2 hours 20 minutes).
Check in at the Best Western Monopole Metropole Hotel which is right by the station for your overnight stay. Spend the rest of the day discovering the sights and sounds of Strasbourg. Famous for housing a number of European institutions, this city is filled with plenty of exciting sightseeing opportunities and of course gourmet delicacies. Visit the Notre Dame cathedral, the 17th century Palais des Rohan and Petite France, home to Strasbourg's prettiest and most photogenic streets and buildings.
After breakfast take the TGV Lyria train onwards to Zurich before connecting on to the Swiss Railways Intercity Train to Chur.
On arrival in Chur check in to the Romantik Hotel Stern.
The "oldest city in Switzerland", Chur, is situated in a deep valley formed by the Rhine, has a rich and powerful history and was founded by the Romans in 15BC.
After an early breakfast, depart from Chur on the Bernina Express to Tirano via St Moritz. The train crosses the Alps and offers breathtaking views from the panoramic carriages. Ride over spectacular viaducts, through sheer rock gorges and switch-back tunnels, alongside mountain streams and glaciers.
Be sure not to miss the impressive Landwasser Viaduct, which will appear on your right just before St Moritz. The train climbs up the 2253 metre high Bernina Pass and the entire trip is narrated. Food is available to buy on the train. This whole area is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Enjoy lunch in Tirano at the end of the line, or stop a little earlier in Poschiavo which has a lovely choice of cafés and restaurants before returning for your second night in Chur.
The line finishes in the Italian border town of Tirano and after time for a bite to eat you board the train back to Chur to spend your second night at the ABC Hotel.
Leave Chur in the morning and travel via Thalwil to picturesque Lucerne.
Check in to the Waldstaetterhof Hotel, situated right opposite the station and where you will stay overnight.
After checking in to the hotel you have time to spend the afternoon in charming Lucerne. You can explore the old town's classical Swiss architecture, including the stunning Baroque Jesuit church and the medieval Chapel Bridge. Or just enjoy the waterfront by hiring a bike or wandering along the elegant promenade.
After a morning in Lucerne, take the train to Basel before connecting on to the high speed TGV Lyria train to Paris and then home on the Eurostar.

Lucerne is a picturesque city in the centre of Switzerland, set on Lake Lucerne and offering lovely views of the distant Alps. There is plenty of classic Swiss architecture to see from the half-timbered houses of the Old Town, to the elegant spires of the city’s churches and the medieval wooden bridges, the most famous of which is the Chapel Bridge, originally built in 1333. There is also a great market on Tuesdays and Saturday mornings, set in arcades along the River Reuss.
