Itinerary - 4 Night Luxury Holiday by Cruise

Day 1

Bagan

Catch a morning flight from Yangon to Bagan and on arrival, transfer to your luxury river cruise ship, Road to Mandalay. Bagan is an ancient city and was the capital of the First Burmese Empire. Over two thousand pagodas and temples are dotted across an area of sixteen square miles. After lunch onboard, your guide will show you the interiors of some of the larger pagodas and then escorts you to the perfect spot to watch the sun set over the plain.
Enjoy dinner onboard followed by some local entertainment.

Day 2

Bagan and departure

After breakfast onboard, take a guided tour of some of Bagan’s markets which sell a tempting selection of fabrics, longyis, wood carvings and rattan goods. Or choose to explore the area independently by hiring a bicycle or horse-drawn cart. Return to the boat in the mid-morning at its berth on the Ayeyarwady River and depart for Mandalay. Relax on the top deck and watch the scenery pass by as the Road to Mandalay heads up river and then docks for the evening. Enjoy an informal cocktail party before dinner onboard.

Day 3

Mandalay

After lunch, arrive at the village of Shwe Kyet Yet and disembark for a guided tour of Mandalay, the capital city of Burma and considered to be at the centre of Burmese culture and Buddhist learning. Back onboard, enjoy dinner and local evening entertainment.

Day 4

Mingun and Sagaing

This morning, cruise to Mingun for a tour of the area’s major sights including the huge Mingun Temple, home to the largest ringing bell in the world. Return to the Road to Mandalay by ferry and enjoy a late lunch onboard. Later, visit the Sagaing Hills, one of the centres of Burmese Buddhism. Return to the ship for dinner and local entertainment onboard.

Day 5

Departure

After an early breakfast, transfer to Mandalay airport for your onward flight to Yangon.

Bagan

Bagan

Bagan is located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River and is home to the largest area of Buddhist pagodas, temples, stupas and ruins in the world, most dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The sheer volume of votive architecture dotting the vast plain is a spectacular and unforgettable sight.

Mandalay

Mandalay

Compared with the ancient temples and pagodas around it, the city of Mandalay is relatively young, having been founded in 1861 as the last capital of the Burmese Empire. The city is now considered to be the cultural and spiritual centre of the country and is home to three in five of Mynamar's Buddhist monks. Visit the Royal Palace, built for King Mindon in 1861 and don't miss religious sites such as the Maha Myat Muni Paya golden Buddha and the temples on Mandalay Hill.

The Ship has a capacity for 82 passengers, is air-conditioned throughout and has a restaurant, an observation lounge, a piano bar, deck bar, lounge, swimming pool, boutique, spa and fitness facility, library and a medical facility.

Observation Deck
The top-deck consists of an open area partly covered by canopies, a swimming pool and a sun-deck area with loungers. The top-deck bar provides cool refreshing drinks and is open all day and evening. Cane and teak furniture allow guests to relax in comfort and to observe river life or watch the sunset. Weather permitting, buffet lunches and afternoon tea are served on the Observation Deck.

The Lounge
The Observation Lounge has a colonial ambience with its woven-cane furniture and wooden-slated Venetian blinds. Its large windows provide an excellent view of the Ayeyarwady River. A variety of local entertainment takes place here in the evenings, and during sailing days lectures on a variety of Burmese topics are given by guides. A small library is also situated here and contains a variety of books, games and magazines as well as a small seating area.

The Piano Bar
Decorated with a mixture of light wood and Burmese lacquer ware, the bar offers the guests a range of delicious local and international cocktails while enjoying the musical talents of the local pianist.

Restaurant
Situated at the aft end of the ship is the Restaurant with its Burmese wood-carvings and artifacts. A variety of local, Asian and Western dishes is served here for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Superior and Deluxe cabins
Both the Superior and the Deluxe cabins are set up with twin beds, have an ensuite shower and WC, air conditioning, a desk/dressing table and chair, wardrobe including draws and Satellite TV. Deluxe cabins though are larger (17.95 m2, compared to 11.3 m2 in the superior cabins) and are also a bit lighter (3 windows, compared to 1 in a superior cabin) so we always recommend upgrading to these cabins for extra comfort.

State Cabins
State cabins have all the facilities of the superior and deluxe cabins but they also have a double bed, an armchair, have more wardrobe space and are also larger at 23.25 m2.

Governor’s Suite
The Governor’s suite is the largest accommodation on board at 29.1 m2. There is a lounge area, separate shower room to the WC and two built on flat screen TV's with satellite channels.
