Finish with an overnight stop in the Bavarian city of Munich before travelling back to London by train.

Itinerary - 7 Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

London to Zurich

Travel from London to Paris on Eurostar, where you transfer onto the high speed TGV Lyria train to Zurich. On arrival in Zurich, check in at the Hotel du Théâtre for an overnight stay.

Zurich is widely considered to be one of Switzerland's most scenic cities. Climb the steps of the Grossmünster for incredible views over the rooftops, wander through the cobbled streets of the old town, take a romantic stroll along the beautiful Lake Zürich, or shop for gifts along the famous Bahnhofstrasse.

In the evening, sample some traditional Swiss cuisine such as raclette, sauerkraut or delicious fondue.

Day 2

Zurich to St. Wolfgang

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before travelling by train through the Swiss and Austrian Alps over the spectacular Arlberg Pass. This scenic journey beings in Zurich as you travel along the shores of the lake. Once the train leaves Zurich, beautiful Alpine scenery comes into view as the train passes through Liechtenstein before entering Austria. Sit back and enjoy the picturesque views of mountain meadows and stunning Alpine scenery as the train continues to Salzburg.

Once in Salzburg, travel by train to Bad Ischl which is located in the Austrian Lake district. Take the short journey by bus or taxi to the picturesque lakeside town of St. Wolfgang. On arrival in St. Wolfgang, check in at the Furian Hotel St Wolfgang for a 5 night stay.

Days 3 to 6

Lake Wolfgang

Spend the next four days at leisure in the stunning surroundings of the Austrian Lake District. St. Wolfgang is situated at the northern bank of Lake Wolfgang and is the perfect place to relax. Take a boat trip around the lake, relax on the hotel’s private beach area, which is located directly on the lake, or go for a stroll around the picturesque town with its pilgrimage church and stunning scenery. Take a trip on the Schafberg Cog Railway up the Schafberg Mountain for spectacular views over the surrounding area, or why not take a day trip to one of the surrounding lakes such as Mondsee?

Day 7

St. Wolfgang to Munich

After breakfast in the hotel travel by train from St. Wolfgang to Salzburg before continuing to the Bavarian city of Munich. On arrival in Munich, check in at the Courtyard Munich City Centre for an overnight stay.

Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Munich. Marienplatz is the iconic centrepiece of this beautiful Bavarian city and is the perfect place to start. Marvel at the surrounding architecture, go for a stroll through the beautiful Englischer Garten or take in a performance at the Bavarian State Opera.

In the evening, visit one of Munich's many bars and restaurants, some of the best of which line the streets leading to and from the Marienplatz.

Day 8

Munich to London

In the morning, travel by German ICE train to Frankfurt and Brussels before taking the Eurostar back to London.

Situated on the banks of the River Limmat where it meets the northernmost tip of Lake Zürich, the city of Zurich is Switzerland’s culture capital with excellent museums and great shopping, particularly along the famous Bahnhofstrasse. Discover one of the city’s many galleries such as the Kunsthaus Zurich which houses one of Switzerland’s most important art collections. In the evening, relax in one of the lakeside restaurants and cafés or explore the lively Old Town area.

Situated in the stunning surroundings of the Austrian Lake District, the market town of St Wolfgang am Wolfgangsee offers the perfect base to explore this beautiful region. There’s a picturesque town centre with a lovely pilgrimage church and breathtaking views to be had from the surrounding mountains. If climbing one of these sounds far too energetic, you can choose simply to relax on Lake Wolfgang.

Munich

Munich

With a wealth of museums, gardens and historic buildings, Bavaria’s capital Munich has something for everyone. Visit the Old and New Schliessheim Palaces, enjoy a performance at the Bavarian State Opera or have a picnic in the Englischer Garten, one of the largest municipal parks in Europe. In the evening, you might like to relax with a beer and a Bavarian meal in the famous 16th century Hofbräuhaus.
