Founded by the Romans and famous as the centre for shipping classic Spanish goods such as olive oil and wine, Cordoba is a city of great importance. Take a walk to Cordoba’s most famous landmark, the “Mezquita” which when it was built was the largest mosque in all of Islam with spectacular views over the city. Cordoba also contains many other treasures such as the Alcazar, or Fortress, built by the Christians in 1328; the Calahorra Fort, originally built by the Arabs, which guards the Roman Bridge, and on the far side of the river from the Mezquita, and the ancient Jewish Synagogue, now a museum.
